We love the Toyota Land Cruiser. From the 80-Series to the Heritage Edition to the Prado to the Prado-based GX460, we’re Land Cruiser die-hards here at Hooniverse. In any guise, the Cruiser is off-road capable, durable as durable gets, and built to the highest standard in the automotive industry (at least this side of high-end luxury cars). These traits are usually reflected in the price, as Land Cruisers tend to run a pretty penny. So when foreign-market models make their way to the USA, they usually aren’t cheap. And yet, overpriced has perhaps never seen such an offense as extreme as the one that recently popped up on Craigslist.
But how?
The elephant in the room, other than the price, is that the Cruiser in question is a 2017 that is allegedly in Philadelphia. How it’s here is one question, and the next is how one would go about registering it should you palate the astronomical price. The “missing” title is a concern, but we’ll let the buyer sort that out. Either way, this is a supremely cool spec. All it needs is a small lift and some meaty tires.
…& it’s how much?
Now, take a guess, how much should a 2017 79-Series Land Cruiser cost? Consider that this might be the holy grail of Cruisers: Four door pickup, straight six diesel, manual transmission, and it’s even left-hand-drive. The odometer shows 53 km, or 33 miles. It’s basically new. Suppose this Cruiser carried an MSRP of $70,000 AUD (which would be on the high side, and maybe even marked up marginally) in 2017. That converts to $47,179 USD. And the 2017 79-Series Land Cruiser we have here is listed at…
$145,000.
Again, it might be the holy grail, but $145k? Come on. That’s Heritage Edition money with almost a hundred grand to spare. And you think for the price they’d at least take better pictures.
Now, how much is the lottery this week?
