When Open Sewer Manholes Attack

Every time a Russian turns on a video camera, the internet gets slightly more awesome. This bizarre video courtesy of Russia seemingly shows an open sewer manhole giving one unsuspecting driver the ride of his life. A dashboard camera from a van behind the action shows everything, including the open manhole left behind after the gnarly crash. But there’s also a second video from a different vantage point that suggests a slightly different story.

This first video is taken from the dashboard camera and provides a street-level view of the action. Skip ahead to about 1:15 for the action.

Now that you’ve seen that, check out this one, and pay special attention to the manhole at very bottom of the screen, particularly to what’s placed over it.

Did you catch that? The manhole cover was in fact gone, but in its place was some sort of metal grate. This means that this crash wasn’t because of a careless driver, but most likely because the grate got caught up in the car’s undercarriage and the manhole which turned that 4,000 lb. chunk of metal into an Olympic pole vaulter. Also, if you watched till :40, you’ll notice that the driver is helped out of the car and seems to be okay.

So there’s another awesome video from the  internet and just one more thing to make your paranoia levels go up behind the wheel.
