Vega Panel Wagon: Well, We'd Be Impressed…

Ah, the Vega: a standout amongst GMs various failures in selling small cars. Despite a checkered reliability history and a general association with the Malaise Era, the Vega has two things going for it: it’s cheap and rear-wheel-drive. What does one do with a cheap rear wheel drive Chevy? 383ci stroker + 700R4 swap, of course. Then there’s the obvious 4x badassness multiplier for being a panel wagon. It’s got no rear seats, so it’ll likely be relegated to your new residence when the wife sees it parts-hauler duty.

$5k seems a little steep for a car that’ll ensure you’re never granted entry to a gated community, but if the work’s done well, it might be a sweet little ride. We’ve only got one suggestion for the new owner. It comes in two words: Wizard Mural.

Although I am not a huge fan of the "just stuff a V8 in er, that'll make it cool" type of thinking, I actually like this thing. The Vega makes for a pretty sweet V8 conversion.
Speaking of cars with V8's…has anybody seen the Citroen ID19 hot rod on ebay?

The Vega also looks pretty good for an econocar, so it’s got that going for it. The whole mini-Camaro thing does it for me.
I’d agree with going for something other than the V8 though. I keep leaning towards the turbo direct injection Ecotec, but there’s also the Vega’s Cosworth engine out there.
Also, will the HHR SS panel van be as awesome in 35 years as this is now? I hope so.

I like the Vega, and I like the Wagon, and the V8 aint bad, but just not 5k awesome. Now, if there was room for a waterbed back there, well then…

Nice, I like it. The only other Vega I'd have is a Cosworth. I like the fact that the subframe has been braced on this one, I've heard stories of V8 Vegas with no bracing that would pop the windshield out onto the hood as the whole car twisted under acceleration.
Yeah, I'll admit it. I'm just the kind of guy who would buy something like this. I'd drive this little bastard proudly every day.

late to the party on this one, but I think it needs at least the port window the Pinto had from the factory!
