Yup, after almost exactly two years at Chez Mad_Science, the UberBird’s relocating to new base of operations in San Diego. Before you get all “awwww” on me, trust me: this is a good move. Like I said earlier, I’ve got enough on my plate these days, so former roommates and gearheads extraordinaire Graham and Aaron are taking over management of the car, and they don’t have three other project vehicles to worry about, just Graham’s 2ZZ-swapped MR2 and fleet of motorcycles and Aaron’s MegaSquirt-ed 2002tii. With a bit more time and less burnout, they’ve got plans to spruce things up a bit…
…that I’m not telling. Ok, well I will share that they’re going to have to tweak the cage and/or seat a bit, because my “My First Roll Cage®” -grade install fails the helmet-to-cage requirements in the 2011 rulebook. Beyond that, well, we’ll just have to see. Be on the lookout for a somewhat more uber UberBird in 2011 at the Skankaway Anti-Toe-Fungal 500, Sponsored by Cruskin-Skankaway Inc., The Official Fungicidal Toe Creme of LeMons, October 22-23 at Infinion and Arse-Freeze-apalooza December 3-4 at Buttonwillow. (…and possibly Arse-Sweat if Aaron can be convinced to go back to Thunderhill). Anyway, in the meantime the UberBird’s spending some time amongst friends.
Last Sunday we took full advantage of the SoCal’s transit infrastructure, with the day’s route being Temecula, Escondido, LA, Ramona, Escondido, Temecula, and finally back to LA. The truck was in Temecula, the trailer in Escondido, the UberBird in LA and the base of operations in Ramona. Felt like a regional delivery truck driver by the end of the day. Speaking of which, it was a pleasant mid-70s all day with a beautiful sunset, just like last year.
For nostalgia’s sake, here’s what it looked like on the lot:
Oh, and this isn’t the only news on the LeMons front. Stay tuned for some more craziness this afternoon…
