The new Acura Integra will get a manual gearbox

Acura just posted a video highlighting something I think you can all appreciate; a slew of manual gearboxes. And the purpose is to highlight the fact that the upcoming new Integra is getting one too.

Acura will show off its new Integra at the upcoming Radwood SoCal show in November. The event is actually being held at American Honda in Torrance, California. This marks an excellent place to show off a beloved nameplate held by the Acura brand, amongst fans that will appreciate such a vehicle.

And for those of you who appreciate a good manual gearbox, we’d like to thank the following stars in order of their appearance above:

-1986 Acura Integra

-1991 Acura Integra

-2001 Integra Type R (I love you, baby)

-2006 Acura RSX Type S

-The new 5th-Gen Acura Integra

I’m not particularly wowed by Acura styling and I’m decidedly put off by their FWD architecture, but I will give them props for offering a proper manual transmission. Flappy paddles can go to hell and burn. Three pedals FTW.

You need to experience one of Honda’s high revving V-TEC engines like the Integra Type R or the RSX Type S if you haven’t. Yes, they’re bolted into a FWD chassis, but it’s impossible to wind one to redline without a big stupid grin on your face. So much fun.

And Honda makes some of the best shifters around.

I will completely agree that those engines are fantastic– they’re just powering the wrong pair of wheels. I’ve had brief fun in FWDs, but my enjoyment in them is limited. I tire quickly of being “pulled”. I think it’s just because I grew up driving RWD and my skills and instincts developed from that type of setup. It’s where I feel comfortable, and I’m much better at spirited driving when I’m in a rear-drive car.

Honda does build some great manuals. The one in my friend’s Civic Si is very slick.

That’s a fantastic little video, and I loved seeing the RSX-S.
