Not content with letting Ken get all of those coveted Interwub hits, Tanner Foust brings his A game in this slidely, smokey clip.
Is this better than the Gymkhana madness purported by our current Hoonlord, Ken Block? Maybe, maybe not. There’s a press release attached to this video, but who gives a shit? I mean, really.
Notice how we’re bringing you this video way before those imposters over at that shark-jumping, spectacled car blog. Booyah.

The only thing that kinda puts this ahead of Block's videos is that there's no robber marks on the road ahead of the car, so this didn't take multiple takes.
Also: Jay Leno, The Fast and The Famous looks really lame now.

There's the associated risks that come with hooning on Mulholland, such as smacking your expensive hypercar into the guardrail:

Or saying hello to the local constabulary:

But people still do it:

Also, Veyron (can't believe I missed seeing it in person by a few minutes):

That fake Scion tC kills it for me. It's a moral thing.
Btw for anyone thinking of doing the same — CHP is fairly active on that road on weekends, and I've frequently seen them camped out on the top. -
For as many corporate sponsors as they had, and as much pre-production they had to do with closing down roads, booking a helicopter and whatnot…
The video kinda sucked. Great idea. Nice driving. Lame cinematography.-
Everyone's a critic.
Be sure to stay away from the site next week.
Although…if you divide by our budget, our awesomeness/dollar is infinite!-

This begs the question, how quickly and smoothly could Walter Rohrl do this in an Audi Quattro?

I say we start a 501(c) and start taking donations until we (and the rest of the world) can find out for sure.

Okay, (a) I thought the video was awesome. Sure I could've used more wide shots and less transitions to slow-mo, but those are nitpicks. The biggest thing for me is no lame music and all engine noise. FINALLY someone gets that at least! (and what a noise!)
(b) Where the hell is my RWD v8 powered Scion TC with a straight cut sequential shift manual transmission? That would go a long way toward redeeming Scion, and Toyota as a whole, in my book. At least stick the 1UZFE in a small platform manual transmission car; you've got all the parts guys! And apparently the skill to put it together! [cue Gob] COME ON!!!-
Yes, definitely one of the better drift videos I've seen.
If Scion built cars like this than their "tuner" branding wouldn't be such a farce, and I would take them much more seriously.-
I was watching the video last night, giggling profusely (I'm allowed, shuuush) and thought – dang, if Scion's came like that I may just buy one but as they sit, hell no. Maybe for my 18 yr old cousin so she can like totally cruise around with her girlies and go like shopping, but no way, not for me.

Dekotora'ed xBs would go along way to redeeming Scion also.

Whoever didn't like the video is rather missing the point. even if there was no video, listening to the V8 rev would've been enough. The video just adds to it.

I find myself wanting to put this lump (a TRD NASCAR Truck Series engine with EFI, IIRC) in a 2000GT.
Would it be blasphemous? Yes. Would it have one of the highest concentrations of PAH! in the known universe? HELL YES.-
I was going to ask if it'd more blasphemous than this, but turns out it's a replica.

And it looks like they originally planned a Corvette-powered Scion before settling on the TRD NASCAR V8 (with a Corvette's ignition system).

Bloody hell, that is an amazing replica of a 2000gt!! How the hell did they do that? Even the door handles, windshield, side glass, indicators, and everything else match up! I think it's photoshopped. 😉
I'm guessing that took some high level master craftsman shit. Damn. Now that they've made one, they can crank another out for a customer, right? Since it's a 240z, it can't cost that much!

No man with such a gay name should be able to drive in such a manly way.
-
The minus 3 on this comment is a warning from the other readers.
While you're obviously trying to make a semi witty compliment, please take the message to heart.
Besides, Tanner Foust isn't really that gay of a name to begin with.-
Totally, "Alan" is way "gayer"…?

I hope it's clear that I'm joking, but given the nature of the thread I thought I'd make it clear. I appreciate your handling of the situation, M_S.

That was awesome , except the minor glitches in the Matrix when it went to Slow-Mo.
And we all thought Ken Block was “the one”! -
I hope it was a virgin road and they did it on the first take and not some fancy editing. I love seeing burnout marks on the street. Others may see skid marks from a crash, but I know the difference and smile.
It is cool to watch the in car footage and see how the steering wheel is spinning through this hands. I'm trying to show my 17yr old nephew that you can relax your hands on the wheel and still be in control. His dad would rather I didn't teach the hand brake turn.
