Subaru officially unveils its return to iconic livery for 2019

Subaru is bringing back its iconic blue & gold livery from the World Rally Championship glory days. While the automaker isn’t returning to the WRC yet, Subaru is looking to continue its domination of US Rally racing. The Subaru team have won 13 of the last 14 titles.

For the 2019 season, Subaru is bringing a familiar name from WRC to the American Rally Association competitions; Solberg. Not former WRC championPetter Solberg, but rather his son Oliver. For those who don’t follow European rally and motorsport closely, Oliver appeared in Gymkhana Ten (extended Sweden cut). Ken Block borrowed Petter’s rallycross Fiesta, while Oliver jumped in another Fiesta and the pair did tandem donuts in the snow. The kid knows car control.

Subaru will still see David Higgins and co-driver Craig Drew in the hot seats as well. The pair will run a full campaign during the 2019 season. Competing in every event helps these two continue their domination of the sport in the US. The first event for Subaru this year will be the Rally in the 100 Acre Wood next month. Oliver and his co-driver, Andrew Johnston will also be in attendance at 100 Acre Wood.

Pastrana is on the team too

Travis Pastrana and co-driver Robbie Durant will be competing for Subaru in two events in 2019; the Oregon Trail Rally and Ojibwe Forest Rally. In both of those events Pastrana and Durant will sit in place of Solberg and Johnston.

I’ve attended the 100 Acre Wood race before. That was without the big names in the series. Having them attached to compete is wonderful news for the sport. Watching rally cars race by is always entertaining, but watching true professional drivers is awe inspiring.

We will have to wait and see if David Higgins’ car will have an updated livery too. There has been no indication from Subaru Motorsports USA about what his might look like. The entirety of their Twitter profile is now blue & gold though, so we can hope for a similar variation for his car too.

Finally a message from Oliver:
