Retromobile 2015: The Merchandise

IMG_7731
Hooniverse’s Retromobile coverage now focuses on the mom-and-pop businesses with booths at the classic car show. The sheer volume of Hoontastic toys and baubles available is mind blowing. What I have captured here is just a tiny fraction of the products on offer. The lede photo is a hand built, 1/43 scale, ultra-detailed 1938 Alfa Romeo Le Mans racer for a mere 2,900 Euros. Make the jump to see what else you can pick up with your hard earned cash.

This company specializes in converting aeroplane components into upscale furniture. This is many orders of magnitude fancier than mere auto engine coffee tables.

This Parisian company makes little cars with 110 cc gasoline engines. The cars weigh 200 kilos and the transmission has three forward gears plus reverse. Incredible.

Then, we have the diecast models. Dozens of vendors had thousands of models on offer, from Lagonda shooting brakes to dioramas of 1990s F1 pit stops.

This guy will re-upholster anything and everything. I saw a master demonstrate pin striping on just a plain sheet of paper. I stood there, mesmerized, for minutes.

Did I mention the model cars?

A Scaglietti wire frame jig, used to check the body panels of Ferrari 250 GTOs. No big whoop.

A booth full of children’s books with cars as main characters. Here are the front and back covers of one of the books on display.

Hiding in amongst the models of Paris-Dakar racers there appears to be a Rover SD1?
    It's true! It really happened!

I was just looking at the damage on my credit card statement. The euro is incredibly cheap right now.
When I went to the bank to get some euro notes, the teller was saying people planning on vacationing in Europe this summer are already hoarding euros.
