Long Shots: 1969 BMW 2500

IMG_2295 So round these here parts of FantasyLand there are a few industrial parks housing motorcar repair centers. It was out in front of one of these shops this olelongrooffan recently spotted this rusty ole beauty. I have been considering the purchase of an additional means of transporting my old butt to work; one which gets a little better gas mileage than my longerroof. Yeah, as a part of the semi recent promotion this olelongrooffan received, my regular attendance at one of our communities nearly an hour’s drive away is required. My fellow Hoons are welcome to make the jump to see if this one is the right new ride for me. IMG_2296 As this olelongrooffan was checking out this sedan, I started clicking boxes as to its desirability. Old BMW, check. Originality, check. The rarity factor, check. Running condition, check. Newer shoes, check. Roof length, acceptable. IMG_2297 Then, thankfully, common sense checked in and I realized the amount of rust on this ride means that it probably is not quite as air tight as I would like and this classic old Bimmer would be a mere pile of rusty bits within just a year or two. Too bad. IMG_2298 As this olelongrooffan was looking over this once desirable ride, I thought back a few years to my justification for the purchase of my pre-rusted Jeep Comanche and the fact that I lived a mere two blocks from the Atlantic Ocean and its pre-rusted status was not a detriment to the acquisition of that oldbeaterpickemup truck. However, even though this beauty possessed only 65,xxx on its odo, by the time all of the rust on this ride was bondo-ed, the weight of it would most likely erase any gain in gas mileage this ride could offer.  And as much as leaving it in its existing condition satisfies the Hoon in me, I doubt my bosses, Prince Charles and Lady Di, would be as amused as would we Hoons. IMG_2299 It was about this time that a dude came wandering out of that garage bay door just in front of that Diatsu hatch seen just behind my longerrooff in the above image. We got to chatting it up and he mentioned it is for sale for the mere asking price of 750 greenbacks. That number sure tempted this olelongrooffan but, alas, reality checked in again and I decided to pass on it. IMG_2300 “Well, then,” that greasy rag carrying dude mentioned, “maybe you’d be interested in what I have just out back.” So we sauntered out back just behind that chain link fence.
