LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3 RS is coming summer 2016

The new LEGO Technic Porsche 911 GT3, Lego model number 42056, is officially coming this summer! …And it looks a little weird. As someone who was obsessed with LEGO as a child, an obsession that has been picked up by my own kids, I should love this Technic GT3 RS, but I don’t know if I do. Something is off in the gaps near the headlights and A-pillar for me. It looked better the first time we saw in pre-production black and camo. No word if it will be in only in Lava Orange or in black camo, too. But the rest of is seem pretty cool!

The model looks to the have the typical Technic engine with moving pistons, transmission, steering, and suspension. Undoubtedly the front trunk, doors, and the rear engine cover will open. It’s difficult to speculate on any extras, but LEGO likes to throw surprised into sets like there. Reports are of shifter paddles, race seats and a glovebox with a unique serial number. There will also be custom fitted luggage in the front trunk, as in the real car. It would be really cool if it was radio controlled but that won’t happen here.
The 2700-piece, 1:8 scale, Porsche will be available this summer (that, 2016, in case you’re reading this in the future) and should sell for $300. The car will measure over 6” (17cm) high, will be 22” (57cm) long, and 9” (25cm) wide. It will also come with a “special full-color collector’s book including the history of LEGO® Technic and Porsche GT car.” It would make a nice match to my Unimog. It would be cool to see the Caterham and the Polonez, too. LEGO, can you hear us!? We want a Technic Polonez!!!

What’s the point? These Lego sets are nothing more than follow the direction models. This is less than $25 and looks a helluva lot more realistic.

Whatever happened to having a bucket of various sized pieces and you used your own creativity to build something? Damn kids with their phones and i-pads and short attention spans. That’s what happened. Back in my day we built a Porsche out of a Kleenex box, some rocks and rubber cement and we loved it. Now get the hell off my lawn!

I used to like taking spare parts from one model and adding them to another. I still have an early C3 Corvette somewhere that I tubbed for drag slicks.

Oh man, I had so many of those. In the end I had a big box, I think originally a Bronco and a speedboat came in it, that was full of awesome extra parts.

I agree. The end result looks like neither a 911 nor Lego blocks. It’s just a scale model kit that makes you pay extra for the fact that sucks at being a scale model kit.

I previously thought these were overpriced, but then you mention the size… That’s pretty big and a regular model of similar size, that isn’t Lego based, I’ve seen go for 4 or 5 figures. Maybe it’s actually reasonable. Also, that Caterham is amazing!

But it’s also all the Technic stuff. The paddle shifters actually work!

Really? Now I kind of want one. Maybe I’d repaint it signal green.

At what point will the Lego version of a car cost more than the car itself?

I hate to be a downer but that looks terrible.

Seeing as it looks like most of the body panels were custom made for this kit, it sure does look terrible.
