A long time ago I read a poem called The Life of Riley. The gist of it was that Riley led a most envious life and the poem ended with a humorous twist – Oh to live the life of Riley, if only for a day. Oh to live the life of Riley… while Riley is away.
The above shot is another sort of Riley – a ’53 2 ½ litre Drophead if I’m not mistaken – and I can’t say I’m all that envious of the trouble its driver is having in attempting to get in it on one of San Francisco’s famously inclined streets.
Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

A pal of mine lives on one of the top 5 steepest blocks in San Francisco. I can’t back out of a space like the one pictured and point the tail up-hill because I can’t hold traction in the longbed pickup. (Actually, I haven’t tried with the new tires.)
Parking a motorcycle on a hill like that can really break your brain, too. One near my favorite taqueria has no parking on the right side (facing uphill) and so I have to go up, whip a U-turn on a steep hill, then come back down and nose-dive the curb somewhere where no one will park in front of me if I don’t want to have to pull the bike backwards up the hill to get out. -
Now, to this olelongrooffan, she is one attractive woman whose style and attitude represent that era well. Plus she just can’t wait to get behind the wheel of that fabulous Life Of Riley Machine. Even if there wasn’t a Bendix part on it.

Does she have a prehensile tail under that dress?…

She’s our current overlord.
-
She has the wind up her skirt, so to speak….

There’s something about a handful of British autos from earlier eras that combines staid practicality with grandma’s-hot-sister-in-a-one-piece that I love. Sunbeam Talbot 90 Mk IIA, Triumph 1800, Singer 9 and this come to mind.

You know the SS/Commodore is really, really dead when Holden’s own website uses a pic of a Malibu for the Commodore icon in it’s showroom section.

Being a native San Franciscan and also a former owner of a 1950 Riley (Which I think that is) , I wax nostalgic. I sold it years ago to buy an engagement ring for my future wife.
