Last Call: Some Japanese Grand Prix for you

Seeing this video reminded me of how great racing used to be. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love modern racing, but it’s hard to beat watching Ayrton Senna manually shift through this GP lap. Everything was so raw and I feel like the driver made much more of a difference compared to the car. Plus, it looks like there isn’t a pit speed limit here which is kind of crazy. And as we slowly move into an age of electricity, I know we will forever look back at clips of F1 V6 and V10 engines smacking the rev limiter. I hope the day we do move to fully electric racing is far away from now.

I haven’t watched F1 in 20 years, but this shaky, screaming noise sure brought back good memories. Also, a solid nostalgia for an analog world that neither is no more nor was it any better than what we have today. Just an illusion of skilled craftsmanship yet simpler times.
