Last Call: Nice Segue Edition

I don’t know what’s more disturbing, that this guy’s on the highway on a Segway—the world’s nerdiest form of personal transportation—or that he appears to be on the phone while doing so.
Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day.  It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

For me it’s the fact that he doesn’t seem to be signalling that lane change.

For me it’s the Squidness of it all. Riding a two-wheeler on the highway in shorts, no helmet… Squid.

Probably a publicity stunt for Quick Deaths Inc.

Well, he’s not on the highway…yet. That’s just Wacker approaching Lake Shore Drive. The lower level of LSD does have a ped bridge, which might be his destination.

Hmm. You need brake lights, turn signals, a headlight and a 150cc gas engine to be highway legal in California. It couldn’t be too hard to replace some of the batteries with a gas tank and make a light belt. Add motorcycle style controls to the handle bars, headlamp and front turn signals on the upright and bolt an EFI engine below. Use a fly-by-wire throttle and redo the on-board computers to use the throttle plate instead of the voltage controller and Bob’s yer Uncle. Highway legal segway.

Shouldn’t this be on the Lanesplitter section of your for-sale, about-to-go-bankrupt media site? Oh wait…never mind.
When was this photo taken? The guy might be on LSD. Chicago has a[n annual?] “Bike the Drive” (or something like that) day when they shut down Lake Shore Drive for a few hours to let bicyclists enjoy the space and fabulous views. Maybe this was the lead-in to that event?

It’s called LATE and it runs from 1-5AM, so not this.

Nope. See “Bike the Drive” on Wikipedia and other sites. Wikipedia says BTD starts at dawn. I rode the late night ride you’re talking about maybe 20 years ago when I lived in suburban Chicago; at the time, it did not include LSD. To clarify, I have no idea whether the photo is actually from this year’s BTD; I was just offering a possibility.

Now that the filters are all off of society, we’ll be seeing more and more idiocy like this.
