Last Call: Have you ever seen an automatic stick shift?

I saw the thumbnail for this video and was confused as to why there was an automatic Z on my feed. Then I saw the three pedals and I became more confused. Then he shook the shifter and it all clicked. Honestly, I think this is a really funny concept that would probably get a lot of laughs at meets. It probably goes something like, “yeah man mines and auto but it’s still cool.” They then proceed to take a drive with someone and start banging gears at every light. I’m sure this guy gets a lot of funny reactions from passengers and I bet he has people that don’t even realize. How would you react?

I’ve driven a 73 Beetle with Automatic Stick Shift but that only had 2 pedals. This is an awesome troll

I had a buddy who that in this in garage waiting to go into his Beetle. He described how it worked to me and then I understood why he never installed it.

The odd thing is I have seen these installed in Formula Vee racers because the lap times were faster with 2 pedals.

Maybe its the difference between 38 horsepower and a lot more power?

Following on from a comment I’d put in a news article last month, yesterday I went past a former Holden dealer that now has Mitsubishi signage up. Mitsubishi is the 5th-best selling brand in Australia because they offer cheap but reliable and adequate pickups and SUVs. Holden, well, you know that story.

There was still a HSV sign up, and they hadn’t finished rebranding aka changing colour schemes completely.

Also nearby was a closed FCA dealership, still with an Abarth scorpion sign on display while the rest had been removed.

If you wait long enough then there is a chance that FCA will be merged with Mitsubishi in a few years.

They merged with PSA, not the Nissan Renault (and mitsubishi) alliance

I know. I was kidding because they have merged with a lot of companies over their long history.

Maybe Stellantis will fail and Nissan will buy it to get the jeep brand. Jeep seems to be the only constant keeping whoever owns it existing since the 40s

That would really close the circle, as it also implies Renault swallowing Peugeot.

Or Renault and Nissan/Mitsubishi splitting up (not inconceivable at this point), and Nissan merging with Peugeot just to spite Renault…

Summer traffic when people have way too much money and every clown who barely knows how to drive a car wants to own an RV:

Oof, I’ve driven an RV (well, an underpowered Toyota HiAce with a high roof), and as much as I like to think I reasonably know how to drive, I figure doing it on the opposite side of the road takes away a lot of my competency. I very much enjoyed it (having your entire abode with you and being able to set up for a break whenever you like is nice), but I also pulled over for traffic behind me at every opportunity possible except one pass where it was very likely we wouldn’t have gotten over if we lost any more momentum. This just reminds me why we mostly travel in the off-season.

Alternatively, it was a coastal road with a great view that has now become a camp ground with a great view…

My commute goes along a fjord. Most of the year, it is a quite predictable 17 minute drive. In late summer though, it can be 30 minutes occasionally – with RVs doing 40 kph instead of the regulated 80, or typical 90. Sudden stops in mid-traffic to photograph a waterfall happen, too. That’s a vital part of my dislike for RVs.

I did this with my first car, a 1959 Ford sedan. After its Ford-O-Matic transmission died I converted the car to a three-speed manual with overdrive. This left behind the PRNDL window just below the instrument cluster (representative photo below), now without an indicator as that had simply been a brightly painted metal tab spot-welded to the shift tube running parallel along the top of the steering column. The three-in-the-tree shifter was essentially identical in appearance. Nobody ever commented on the vestigial PRNDL, but it wasn’t in a particularly obvious location for the passengers.

FRS, not a Z. Owner probably wouldn’t mind a VQ swap though.
    Probably great trolling at C&C
