Jims recent post aboot kit cars inspired me to toss this out there. I’m kind of a jerk when it comes to handing out clues so this is all you get. Cheers!
Kit Car whatsit?

Spex Elf based on a Honda
-
Damn, I've been beaten by four minutes. Knowing who you are, Schmo, and your snarky little 'aboot' gave it away.
(I was just gonna say, Schmo, I'm gonna need my Spex to see that tiny friggin' photo… Okay, so I need them to do anything.)-
you are all sick in the head!
-
seriously though, it looks like it could float. amiright??
-
It keeps looking backwards to me.

-
With all due respect, I think I'd rather have the Honda.

-
It looks like a Sunbird convertible that shrunk in the wash.
-
I had the same thought but with a Cavalier Z24, so I looked up other images of the Spex. From the side you can see a kind of baby Lancia Zagato or Scorpion vibe:

Is that the exhaust exiting below the passenger door? Ooh, better remind your date to watch her calves.

Lancia TR7 Del Sol Edition – now with VTEC YO.

I see your Sunbird, (and facelvega's Cavalier) and raise you an Oldsmobile Firenza!

I was thinking someone got ahold of a Renault Alliance convertible and tarted it up a bit.
-
Honda beat VW to the silly blue gauge fad by 30 years!
-
The only place I like those blue VW gauges are in my mother's New Beetle – which is a similar shade of soft indigo-blue, so they work.
-
i like those blue VW guages for driving in true darkness (or near it–"mid"-western US.. out in the cornfields for miles on end..)… turn the dimmer down all the way (without being "off") and you can see everything perfectly w/out being blinded… i have yet to drive another vehicle that does that as well (the back-lit dodge magnum (and that family of cars) with the white-backed guages is second… )
and i ramble…

Wow. One of the better looking cars in non-real-car-copy kit car genre IMHO.
Front looks a bit like TVR SEAC because of these lower grilles or whatshouldIcallthem:

I thought it looked like an early '80's Celica Convertible mated with a Sunbird when I saw this…

That thing is screaming Geo Metro Convertible to me.
Just compare the windshield rake:
