Hooniverse Post Rolex24 Week Videos: The "Let's Kill Productivity" Edition

Hands Off LRF

As my fellow Hoons might be aware, this past weekend was the 50th Anniversary of the running of the Rolex24 at the Daytona International Speedway. This olelongrooffan has previously posted, ad nauseum, about my attendance at that event, as well as the parade on the Friday before the Continental BMW Performance 200.

Well my fellow Hoons, this olelongrooffan, at each of those events, was able to capture, albeit with my elcheapo 28 dollar ebay camera, some grainy videos for your listening pleasure, but you have to make the jump to see them.

First up is the past winners of this race all gathered down in a big concrete floored room at the Ocean Center, Beachside, Daytona Beach. I basically just, as I seem wont to do, wandered into the center and just started taking images. I had borrowed a friends super duper camera for images but neglected to have him learn me the skill set necessary to capture video on it. As I didn’t want to experiment at this particular moment, I used my elcheapo. This video is only a couple minutes long but the scent of that burnt racing fuel in that enclosed airspace, as well as the sounds you are about to hear are forever etched in the memory of this olelongrooffan.

Incidentally, did you notice the driver of that Gulf livery Porsche resting comfortably waiting for the parade to begin? I asked him if he was the owner and he said yes. I asked him what that historic machine was worth. “Last week I turned down ten million for it.” Holy Shit Race Fans, although Brad Brownell said he thought it was probably worth it. Note: As shown in the lead image that I asked a total stranger to capture of me with that car, this olelongrooffan DID NOT touch that car. A Mystery Car to boot and near the end the guys starting that DP telling me to “Watch it buddy” so as not to get blasted by its exhaust. Yeah, sometimes this olelongrooffan gets a little to close to the action.

A couple days later, I was sitting trackside during the 24 after returning from the garage area. It was about 2:30 or 3:00 on Sunday morning. I had had a couple cold refreshing cocktails and a couple race buddies were watching the race from the driver’s section of one of the motorcoaches. As I was stoking up the fire, yeah it was down in the upper 50’s, they came out and we were chatting it up about how we love this experience and catching the action on SPEEDTV just did not do it justice. A log or two and a cocktail or two later, everyone thought I should capture the following, also grainy video, to share with all ya’ll. I truly wish the video were as clear as my snow racing observing friends videos are but, well, crank the speakers and enjoy the audio. And remember, this goes on for 24 hours just yards away.

That does it for this edition of grainy videos from this olelongrooffan. We all had a great time enjoying the audio in person and hope my fellow Hoons did also.

thanks to K for the edit
