Hooniverse Motorboat Monday – A 100% Electric Ski Nautique Boat

Welcome to another edition of Hooniverse Motorboat Monday. The Electric Car has many opponents within the car enthusiast community because most see it as a soul sucking pod that is devoid of any driving pleasure, couple with a limited range, and a huge price tag. The Tesla Roadster is seen as one of the few electric vehicles that addresses most of the concerns the “enthusiast” raise, at least when it comes to driving (Range and heart stopping price tag not withstanding). Well, I am here to show you a new electric vehicle, one that is actually a watercraft, and it may actually be embraced by the public.

Pollution discharge by boats has been a very hot topic lately, with lake communities banning the old 2-stroke engines from their waters, with talk about banning all gasoline and diesel powered watercraft from certain regions. Faced with ever stricter emission regulations, LTS Marine of Montreal, and Correct Craft of Orlando, Florida created the Ski Nautique 100 Percent Electric Ski Boat.

Pricing and range have yet to be addressed, but it looks very promising for the casual water skier, who can put a couple of sets in the morning, and charge the boat up for the evening. From the video, this will not replace a water-ski boat for an all day tournament, nor will it run all day at the lake. And with communities trying to ban gas powered pleasure craft, this may be the only alternative.
Let me know your thoughts on this innovation , and as always it is appreciated.

Wonder if I can use it on some of those smallish lakes that ban gas engines with the intention of you only using a trolling motor. Let the quite water hoonage begin!

Most boats spend the vast majority of their time at the dock. As the price of gasoline and diesel increase and become a use limiting factor, the cost effectiveness of electric boat power will shine brightly.

Will it make it to Cuba from Florida? I can see great interest from, ummm shall we say, people involved in the Import and Export business.

Seaworld won't quite be Seaworld, though, if the waterskiers don't have a V8 burble to accompany them…

As a former Ski Nautique owner, I don't see this suiting my needs. But then again, I didn't have waterfront property either and had to trailer it down to my local river. We were out at least a solid 6 hrs every Saturday or Sunday. If the charge would last that, this new product could be electrifying. That and the additional weight of the batteries may eliminate the need for additional ballast utilized for wakeboarding.
Great find Jim. I will be looking into this a bit more.
