Hooniverse Malaise Era Low Mileage Weekend Edition – A 1972 Chevrolet Caprice with 3,300 Miles!

I have a confession to make… When Chevrolet introduced the new 1971 models to the public, I thought they were one of the best looking models ever put into production. Looking back at this 1972 model, I stand by that statement. This was truly the time in which anyone who was in the market for a full-sized sedan would look at the Caprice, and wonder why they should spend the extra money to buy a Buick, an Oldsmobile, or even a Cadillac.

Take a look at the inside of this beauty… Those seats are upholstered in a Brocade Fabric, the same used in contemporary Cadillacs, Buicks, and Chryslers. These Chevys were among the most luxurious cars during this era, but they were still built to a price. Looks like the original owners didn’t order the Power Windows, Power Seat, remote controlled mirrors, but it does come with Factory Air Conditioning.

According to the listing:

1972 CHEVY CAPRICE 4 DOOR HARDTOP MODEL. POWERED BY THE ORIGINAL 400 MOTOR AND TURBO HYDRAMATIC TRANS. CAR RUNS LIKE IT DID WHEN IT WAS NEW, FLOATS DOWN THE ROAD. POWER STEERING, POWER BRAKES, AND AIR CONDITION ( NOT WORKING ).

2 OWNER VEHICLE, ODOMETER READS 3340, IT WAS TITLED TO THE SECOND OWNER IN 2002 AND THE ODOMETER WAS 2308. THIS IS THE ONLY DOCUMENTATION THAT I HAVE REGARDING THE MILEAGE, I TRULEY BELIEVE THE MILEAGE IS CORRECT, BUT MOTOR VEHICLES HAS NOTHING IN THE ARCHIVES THAT CAN BE HARD PROOF. LOOKING AT ALL THE IMPORTANT AREAS OF THE INTERIOR, IT APPEARS THIS CAR WAS HARDLY EVER USED, SUCH AS THE BRAKE PEDAL, GAS PEDAL, SEAT BOLSTERS, ARM RESTS, SEAT BELTS, CARPET, AND CRYSTAL CLEAR DASH AND GAUGE CLUSTER AREA.

THE INTERIOR IS IMMACULATE AND COMPLETELY ORIGINAL. SEATS, DOOR PANELS, CARPET, HEADLINER, DASH, GAUGES AND ORIGINAL FLOOR MATS LOOK EXCELLENT. THE EXTERIOR HAS ALL THE ORIGINAL METAL AND STILL MAINTAINS THE ORIGINAL PAINT FROM 1972 WHICH DOES SHOW SOME BLEMISHES AS COULD BE EXPECTED. I HAVE PICTURED SEVERAL OF THESE AREAS FOR YOU TO SEE.

UNDER SIDE OF THE CAR IS VERY SOLID AS YOU CAN SEE, ORIGINAL FLOORS AND VERY SOLID FRAME. ALL ELECTRONICS ARE IN WORKING ORDER, OTHER THAN THE CLOCK – 8 TRACK ORIGINAL STEREO STILL WORKS. MOTOR COMPARTMENT WAS SHAMELY PAINTED FLAT BLACK BY PREVIOUS OWNER, AND WOULD BENEFIT DEARLY BY A MOTOR DETAIL AND BY PUTTING BACK TO ORIGINAL FACTORY ORANGE CHEVY ENGINE PAINT. ALSO INCLUDED ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL, EMISSION MANUAL AND EVEN THE PROTECTO PLATE.

This auction has 3-days to go, and there hasn’t been an opening bid, which is $5,500. The days of selling low mileage cars on eBay I think are over, and this car should go to one of the high priced Auction Events like Barrett-Jackson, or Gooding and Company to realize higher prices. You may not think this car is worth $5,500, but it’s not unreasonable. See the listing here, and see if you agree with me.
