Drawing of the Wombat

Hooniverse Asks: What’s a project car build you want to see finished?

First things first, the answer cannot be The Wombat because that’s my answer. But there are tons of other great projects in the works, so what are some you’d like to see completed? I’d raise a hand for the Stanceworks Honda-swapped Ferrari 308 and Stephan Papadakis’ adventure-prepped Toyota RAV4.

I know there are tons more though, like the Meteor Interceptor and even Binky from Bad Obsession Motorsports. Sound off with rabbit-hole-inducing builds below.

    Mine!

My ’82 Volvo Turbo is awaiting its new IPD cam kit, weeks delayed, probably sitting in a container off the coast somewhere. Meanwhile, I’m taking on the bent mount for the hood hinge on one side (an annoying genetic fault shared by most 240s), involving some sheet metal fabrication to make a new mount. Then, I install the sway bar kits I got last fall.

Some touch up is also on the menu. The aesthetic for the car is “loved and maintained, gently faded, still works for a living”. But, the rock chips are adding up and it’s starting to look shabby, not hard to do with a black finish over a light gray primer. So, I plan on filling in some of the craters with black enamel, yielding something like a 10-foot paint job. That and some attention to some interior bits (tailgate door card, map pockets on doors, rear carpet) and we’ll be a pair of stylish old geezers hitting the streets again.

One I never started because I don’t think it would have been made road legal without $$$, a Focus 5-cyl turbo powered Mk1 Escort. The engine is too long to fit without major changes.
