HCOTY 2017 – Here's your winner…

There were a wide range of nominees, but as the documentary film The Highlander has taught us… there can be only one. Click on down past the jump to see which vehicle wins the illustrious honor of being called a Hooniverse Car of the Year.

It’s Bradley Brownell’s 1976 Porsche 912E!
This year the contest had a clear victory almost right out of the gate. The finally tally shows this misshapen Yellow Beetle taking in 37% of the votes. The second place Ferrari 308 GTB Group B Rally Car captured just 18% of the votes. It’s a clear victory for a deserving vehicle.
Brad drives the crap out of this thing. He’s driven it all over the country and across all manner of road surface. It was enough that even the folks at Autoweek took notice of Brad’s adventures with his old-timey Porsche.
On a personal note, I’ve driven the car myself. It’s positively wonderful. Yes it’s old and no it’s not fast but it is a joy to pilot an old Porsche down the road. You’re clearly connecting with a machine built by a company that understands what it’s owners want from their car. At least they used to…

Sometimes we don’t always agree on which vehicle wins our end of the year callout. Even internally, we argue over a given machine for our various reasons. It’s not up to us though, as this is an award you all get to vote for and try to make your choice sit at the top of the list.
I can safely say that this year, we all agree with your choice.
Congrats Brad!

Well now with this sort of prestige award, Brad’s going to get at least three times as many notes trying to buy it, right?

As a point of reference, I can honestly state that placing fifth last year has had no negative effect on the number of notes left on my Allegro.

Does that include notes from code enforcement officers?

No, their notes have never included purchase offers. I can only assume they find themselves constrained by overly rigid professional ethics.

The Ferrari is honoured to finish second to such a worthy victor.

A HCOTY winner I actually wholeheartedly agree with? Have I accidentally dropped into a parallel dimension?

Same here and I don’t even care for Porsches all that much. Well done Brad.
