When the NT government recently removed the speed limit on some of their roads, you knew it was going to open the way for some one to do something cool.
Well Porsche has done just that.
Porsche recently brought one of their stunning new Hybrid 918 Spyder Super cars out to Australia. It appeared at the Australian Grand Prix, where Mark Webber did some great demonstration laps in it around the track.
Webber even took Porsche fan and actor Eric Bana for a ride around the track in the car.
So after the Grand Prix, Porsche had the great idea of taking the 918 Spyder to the Northern Territory to let it run loose on the open speed limit roads.
The man behind the wheel of the 918, five time Australian Carrera Cup Champion, Craig Baird
The 918 makes for an amazing sight racing across the NT outback.
So with long straight roads at the 918 and Baird’s disposal high speeds were to expected.
Topspeed recorded ? 350km/h (217mph) to be exact.
See the whole video of the 918 in action below.

Bravo. -
I could just imagine a kangaroo sized hole in a 918.

At speed, Kangaroo Rat = Kanagroo Sized Hole.

Excellent. I’ve always thought this would be one of the great distance runs. But I would combine it with some sort of efficiency metric. (mpg per mph?) Primary candidates will be big German diesels and ridiculous-geared Corvettes. Though by that simple metric, a Prius getting 38mpg at 108mph is far superior to an LS600h getting 20mpg at 120mph. Discuss.

My old Diesel Benz will do 27mpg at 80mph. I wonder how fast I could get it going if I removed the 3.07s and swapped in the spare 2.65 diff.
