I ask you to take a moment and simply bask…
Bask in the magnificent glory of the custom-built beast you see above. This is a 1996 Buick Century wagon, which has been given the extra awesome that comes with a set of a dually rear end. The rest of the car is actually completely stock, which means it’s a front-driver powered by a V6 motor. Move your eyes rearward again, however, and it transforms into a one-off mythical beast of a family hauler.
Ladies and Gentlemen… this is the ultimate automotive mullet, and it can be yours for just $2,500.
Here’s the ad:
Here is a very unique ride, a custom 1996 Buick Century station wagon. It has been customized into a dual rear wheel 2 door. Yes, it’s a Dually wagon. Fun car, gets a lot of attention for sure. Had been my Dads car for the last couple years, he just has too many cars so he doesn’t get to drive it enough to keep around. Other than the DRW conversion it’s pretty much a stock Buick. It’s a V6, still front wheel drive. Starts up every time and runs and drives great. $2500 obo. You can call or text me at (607)624-4953 . Please only contact me if you are serious, not looking for lookie-Lou’s or tire kickers. Thanks.

Feast your eyes on the glory from all of the angles. They even had to alter the placement of the fuel filler to accommodate the Kardashian-grade rear humps.
We need more dually wagons in our lives… this is clear proof of that.

"…the Kardashian-grade rear humps."
Funny!
Uh, why?
Meth, heroin, copious amounts of everclear, cocaine, 4 loko, PCP, bath salts, excessive boredom, absinthe, owning a welder but having nothing better to do with it, crack, huffing sharpies, ecstasy.
As with most things we discuss on this site, I think the proper question is, "why not?"
Such a great comment, ID pre-thumbs-uppeded it from me!
That is usually the answer. And it's perfect.
Well, you have a half a Buick, half a dually, and you either can drag it all to the junkyard or do something (anything) with it.
So, does that rear end still have a diff? And if it does, is there still a pinion yoke under there spinning about wildly as you drive?
I'm thinking they just welded a couple of wheels together (the outer one with the spider cut out), with some kind of spacer in between. Which makes me wonder about how long rear wheel bearings last.
Oh, and tire wear on the outer tires.
Nope, this generation is FWD only so that is just a twist beam axle with no drivetrain back there.
Oh, I know that, I just think the extent of their mods was just to weld wheels together and 'glass some flares on. And bondo over the gap between the rear doors and the rear quarters (above the flares).
If the Panhard rod rusts through, the entire rear of the car will swing out far enough to expose both wheels on one side and cover both wheels on the other – without flares.
Ask me how I know this. Go ahead.
Was it me, I'd attach a little spoked wheel to said yoke, and mount a playing card to the underbody.
Then my duelly wagon would sound like a motorcycle.
You win the internet. The whole thing.
put a fan blade on the yoke thats spinning wildly out of control and get a few extra mpg from the cough self propelling thingy magiger.
I was intrigued until you told me it's still a FWD.
Basically, this wagon is dragging around a few extra hundred pounds in the back?
That just opens up a plethora of possible swaps…
My first thought, keeping with mullets and big o' tires, is a SBC in the back seat. Or an old 6.2 diesel. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry

You have a diesel powered BlackBerry?
Might as well be. It really smokes if I work it too hard. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
Have you tried the Z10 or Q10 yet? It's miles ahead of any previous model.
Waiting to get my hands on the Q10 before I decide. You're right – everything about them is better. Sent from my Verizon Wireless BlackBerry
I am with you on this one. So close to being awesome. Someone needs to buy it and put a huge supercharged v8 poking out of the hood sending power to the back 4 wheels. So close and yet so far.
Would they then be able to advertise it as 4WD?
I'm with you. Though, I think for extra weirdness, maybe a Powerstroke diesel with 12" pipes coming out the roof.
Make this a Buick Roadmaster and I'm in.
Nice price.
Here's how I see this becoming truly truly outrageous…
V8 up front. Tremec T56 in the middle. Power sent out back.
I'm Kamil, and I approve this message.
I'm Hollis, and I approve this approval.

V8 DIESEL…amiright?
counting exhaust stubs and presumed valve pairs leads me to a V12 of some sort
It's the LSV12 featured here the other day.
I had a dream last night, not this – but it made it come back to day memory. It was a Volvo that looked like a cross between a Lagonda and a Volvo 960. Only it say four and the doors were like GT doors, but with triangles on top for ease of entry, plus they opened with a bit of a butterfly. In the back, hanging past the rear axle was a red V6 of all things and the gear box was forward of that. In the back the driver's side passenger had awesome controls for everything in the car unrelated to driving, and the head lights were sealed beams with all these knobs everywhere to fine tune everything precisely. Also, lots and lots of chrome, car was brown otherwise.
What kind of pizza caused that dream, so I can order the same thing?

Needs more El Caminoization.
I like the way you think.
BAM! Thank you, internet…

This or something similar needs to be tracked down & detailed here, and hopefully we'll get to meet an inspired madman who built such a wonder!
I dont see a trailer hitch…. needs more trailer hitch.
Or a hole in the roof to put a goose neck down through.
Wait…it's…
Why would…
But it's…and…
Uh…
So it's…
That's so…
…I gotta go. Something inside me hurts.
I think this is what you meant.

Hate, hate, hate it!
Kill it with fire!
I will, just as soon as I whizz through the tollbooth at 65mph. (Here, hold my beer…)
(*crunch*)
Woo, looking better already!
Next thing to do is to find another pair of flares and put it over the front wheels (with appropriately ridiculous spacers, of course)…
Needs four wheels on the front, too, like a tractor.
The sheer utter vanilla normalcy of the whole thing and then THAT.
exactly!
1. Cut off roof from B pillar rearward.
2. Add V8 and auto trans of choice (6.0+4L65E should be cheap and plentiful)
3. Profit!!!
This is where I like to say, "Just because you can doesn't mean you should."
Then again, as a counterpoint, just because something is clearly a terrible idea doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.
Uh, how do you get into the rear seat? This is so completely the answer to a question nobody asked. I have to assume a dead dually axle wreaks absolute havoc on handling — while doing nothing to increase load carrying or trailer towing capacities that you couldn't do by other more conventional suspension/tire/wheel upgrades.
I find this to be pretty awesome, but my Dad just thinks I'm weird! 😉
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.
An answer to a question nobody asked…..
I can see a powertrain from a 1971 Eldorado fitting nicely into the back of that.
Needs fake wood.
