Could the Fiat Abarth 124 Rally be the perfect theme for the Lada?

Lada theme idea
The 2016 Geneva Auto Show is in full swing, as I have learned through the pictures posted on social media by auto-journalists, writers, bloggers, picture-takers. That’s cool, because cars are cool and I like cars. But then I saw the Fiat Abarth 124 Rally, which is a FIA R-GT spec concept, I guess. And I lost my shit. It’s amazing. We’ll have our typical pointless opinions on everything Geneva soon, so don’t waste your time going anywhere else.
Back to the Abarth 124 Rally. Gawd, just look at it, it’s perfect! And it got me thinking… the 124 Rally is red. My Lada is red. The 124 Rally is a racecar. My Lada is a “racecar”, too. The Abarth 124 Rally is based on the Fiat 124. The Lada Signet/2107 is also based on a Fiat 124!!!
You see where I am going with this? How cool would the Lada look themed as the Abarth 124 Rally?

Why not “a Barthes” – a tribute to the late literary theorist and philosopher, Roland Barthes?
Or perhaps “a barth” – a tribute to the very red bathtub ending of Jean-Paul Marat?
I’ll show myself to the exit…

My problem is we seem to always end up buying Rex Goliath, which is quite good for such a cheap wine, but they don’t have real cork corks, so I can’t do anything crafty with them.

I’m in. Gotta paint Ladabarth on the back. Or maybe Alada. Or maybe Ladarth. Or maybe none of those, on second thought they all suck.
What you do need to do is figure out some way to graft in 4 fog lights to the hood.

        That works too!

Close, but now they’ve got the fancy name-brand stuff:

    How about ABARF?

ABART? An Italian Bart Simpson theme? “Eat-a my shorts!”

It has been done, and by a fellow New England team with a related-ish car.
Instead of fixing the mechanical troubles with the car I recommend you spend most of your free time brainstorming bodily-function-based puns on whatever VFTS stands for

I saw this car several times. I chatted with the guys who ran it after they blew an engine… they were anxious to sell it.

You make a compelling case for it. The only real argument against it is that, especially in LeMons, tribute race liveries are boring. Parody liveries can be compelling, though, so I could get on board with the above mentioned Abarf theme.

Ok, so here’s my take. The 124 for was followed up by the 131. They’re pretty similar looking cars. The 131 once sported the Alitalia livery. Your Lada is from the Soviet Union. Latvia was part of the Soviet Union. Your Lada is maroon. Latvia’s flag is maroon.
The Lada Alilatvia seems like the easy choice.

A Lada lil’ Latvia, you say? (A lot of little Latvia)

Just add green to the red and yelloe scheme and you’ve got the Lithuanian colours! Rally-bred Lada VFTS cars were built in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Nice, Alilithuania is a little more difficult syllable wise.

Yes, but I think if you do it you should put Miata badges on it.

Avoid racing livery and instead replace every identifying mark on the car with something just on the edge of plausibility. Nonstandard side trim that would support a misleading “factory” two-tone paint job would be nice, too.

An Oso Rampante badge would be a nice touch – it’s the Soviet Ferrari.

Don’t splurge on yellow paint! Just leave it the Red car that it is.
As for the Italian/Russian origins, how about using “Togliatti” or “Tolyatti” in the name of your car?
    Here you go: TOTAL-LOSS TOLYATTI!

Italian Communist symbols + Italian Commie Union symbols/flags + some soviet tackiness (below) + hammer & sickle + ears of wheat (pasta) = epic mishmash of a theme.
Team ‘il compagno comunista al dente & a Ladaf racing’ or just ‘A Ladaf al dente racing’
