Welcome to the Hooniverse Classic Captions Post. This is a series of postings that are set to go off around this time almost every Tuesday, so let’s review the premise; I search for images that were used by the car companies in their print advertising or brochures, and it is your job to provide a humorous, snarky, or thought provoking caption that is some how tied in with the image. This image is only about a decade old, so let’s see you try and come up with a clever caption for this week.
Last week, we had an image of a Movie Star standing with an ordinary Dodge, and you guys tied in the image to the movie “My Fair Lady” very well. Kudos to you all.
One of the best tie-ins was from our own Tanshanomi (Yes, again) when he used one of the title songs from the movie, which had a chorus like this:“The Rain in Spain stays mainly in the Plain”. His delightful caption drew inspiration from the song, and for the rust issues experienced by the early Aspens: “The crust of rust stays mainly…oh, hell, it goes everywhere″. Oh so close Tanshanomi…
However it was the Photoshop skills of Irishzombieman that was the winner this time. The original posting used the image from the print ad with the word “Unbelievable”. The image was changed by simply inserting the word “Unreliable”… See the image on the left. Congratulations Irishzombieman!
It’s now time to take a look at this weeks illustration. This is an advertising image for the 2004 Honda Civic Coupe. The group of guys that are standing around the car is the band “Dashboard Confessional”, and Honda sponsored their tour for that year. Does anyone know what this band is currently doing? I can only remember their song “Vindicated” that was featured in the closing credits from the movie “Spider-Man 2”, and, well, that’s about it. I suppose this was a great tie-in for Honda at the time, but looking back at it, I’m not so sure. Here is your chance to try and tie in any of the band’s song-titles to this image. It’s not as easy as any of the other Classic Captions in the past, so dazzle me with all the brilliance that I know our fans truly have. (You can click here to see the full size image)
You have the next five days to come up with a great caption. The editors will deliberate entries, and after listening to “Dusk and Summer” at least twelve more times we will pronounce a winner. So, get to work and create you’re own caption for this thought provoking image.
