I love the show Silicon Valley. If you’re not aware, it’s a comedy show on HBO that’s written by Mike Judge, John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky. The show follows a crew of developers attempting to bring their vision of an algorithm and an app to life in the insane world that is Silicon Valley. It’s a fictional look that makes you question what the reality is actually like up in Northern California. The best character on the show is Erlich Bachman who’s played by TJ Miller. He runs a startup incubator that becomes home base for the Pied Piper development team, and he lives on some past successes. One of which is Aviato, and he’s got the wrapped Ford Escape to show for it.
Well… now you can rent an Aviato Ford Escape.
Yes, that was a long-winded way to get to the damn point here but I think Bachman would be proud with my dancing around the actual reason for this post.
Turo is a car rental company that allows car owners to rent out their own machines. They started in 2009 and were initially called RelayRides. The name change to Turo happened in 2015. The Aviato car pictured above is not the actual car from the show but a replica. It will be touring to various spots around the country to promote the Turo brand, and it can be rented for $50 per day. It’s all going to start in San Francisco, which makes sense, before the car heads down to Los Angeles. When it’s down here, you can bet your ass I’m going to try and spend a day with the car, and I’ll probably use it to run over to the new Philz Coffee that just opened up nearby.
Turo actually has some other pretty rad machines out there to rent. There’s a Mad Max replica Ford Falcon, and the Family Truckster from Vacation. They also have other cars ranging from normal run around town machines, to BMW i8s and Lamborghini Huracans.
I want to rent the Mad Max car but it’s not in my area. The Aviato Escape will be down my way though… bring on the Bachmanity!
