Autopia 2099 is coming and I’d love to see you there

Our old friend Bradley Brownell reached out to me a while back and asked if I wanted to help him bring on a new show. I jumped at the idea when he told me the goal is to focus on all things electric with this one. The show is called Autopia 2099 and we have everything in place for it to happen this December in Los Angeles, California. And if you’re able, I’d love to see you there.

Autopia 2099 is our vision of retro-future meeting the modern-day. This is almost as if our old sister site Atomic Toasters decided to put on a car show. That’s the feeling we’re going for with this one. The crew involved in bringing this to life includes myself, Bradley Brownell (Radwood, Jalopnik, etc), Chad Kirchner (EV Pulse), Ethan Tufts (Hello Road), and Kevin McCauley (Capturing the Machine). And now we’ve also dragged Nissan into this mess, as the automaker has signed on to be the title sponsor of the event.

The location? Optimist Studios, which is near LAX.
The time and date? Saturday, December 4th. Gates open at 10 am and it shuts down at 5 pm.
The cost? It’s $15 if you want to bring a car. It’s just $5 per person if you want to spectate. Kids 12 and under are free.
Where can you buy tickets ahead of time? We have an Eventbrite page for that!

What we’re looking to see here are pretty much any vehicles powered by electricity. We’re talking about home-brewed EV projects on up to automaker-spec electric race cars and beyond. There will be motorcycles, racing vehicles, concepts, and more. Our friend Bisimoto is bringing nine vehicles all on his own, in fact.

If you want to take things further, we are also encouraging you to dress up in your own take on a retro-future ideal. This can be whatever you make of it. We will have prizes for costumes if you choose to play along. For more info on all of this, and more news to come, keep an eye here and over on Jalopnik as we share more info leading up to the event.

Sounds like a great idea for a show! The brown Renault/Dacia all the way to the left above is a converted car? I’d love to read more about that one.

Speaking of Atomic Toasters, I know the site has been down for ages, but it looks like the domain expired last week, too. Does anyone keep in touch with Dearthair & co?

I see Mitch popping up on IG from time to time, but that’s about it.
If anyone wants to snag the domain, go for it.
