Audi just showed off the real-deal E-Tron GT and it looks amazing

The Audi E-Tron GT is no longer just the ride of choice for the dearly departed Tony Stark (if that’s a spoiler, you’re way behind). Audi has officially unveiled its electric sedan and the results are stunning. Thankfully, this one stays true to the concept version. And we’re also excited to learn that the RS team gets a say here, as there’s a super sports sedan version joining the electric-only fun.

Here are the basic stats you need to know:

  • The standard E-Tron GT uses a motor at each axle. The front makes 235 hp and the rear makes 429 hp. Combined output is rated at 429 hp, or up to 522 for 2.5 seconds during launch control situations.
  • On the RS E-Tron GT, it’s a similar setup. The same front motor is used but a more powerful rear motor is swapped in, which makes 450 hp. Now, the combined output is 590 hp or up to 637 hp in that short overboost mode.
  • Audi says the RS E-Tron GT will dash from 0-6o mph in 3.1 seconds while the standard E-Tron GT needs just 3.9 seconds. And both versions can clear 150 mph at the top end.
  • Like the Porsche Taycan, both E-Tron GT versions make use of a two-speed gearbox.
  • Air suspension is standard and moves the car nearly an inch down or nearly an inch up from the central setting.,
  • All-wheel steering is standard on the RS and available on the lesser model.
  • Power comes from a 93.4-kWh pack, of which Audi utilizes 85-kWh to keep the longevity of the system in check.
  • This thing charges much more quickly than the standard E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback. It uses an 800-volt electrical system and can handle charging at 270-kW on a DC Fast Charger. That means it would take 22.5 minutes to go from 5% to 80% state of charge.
  • The automaker estimated range for the E-Tron GT is 238 miles while the RS version dips to 232 miles.
  • The base Premium Plus starts at $99,900. A Prestige starts at $107,100. And the RS starts at $139,900.
  • Audi anticipates the car qualifying for the full $7,500 federal tax incentive, and there could be state incentives as well. Doesn’t make it affordable, but certainly nice to knock the price down a little bit.

What Audi has done here though, is make a car that’s a better looking and less expensive alternative to the Porsche Taycan. We assume the Taycan still drives just a bit better, but only just. And this one is likely more comfortable on a daily basis. Either way, this thing looks wonderful and we can’t wait to take one for a drive.

Not an Audi person at all, but…god damn, that’s hot.

Meh, I’ll wait for the Skoda version.

Is it unusual that I see “Dodge Charger” when I glance at those images?

      Maybe it’s the taillight?

More the front end and side profile actually. The styling just looks a bit derivative to me. It looks good– definitely better than the Taycan (especially up front), but not terribly “Audi” nor very original. I’m even getting some Nissan GTR vibes from that grille.

Is it just me or does that look exactly like a reskinned Taycan?

Same platform, so comparison is there… but this definitely looks better, to me.

Look at them side by side, the greenhouse is identical. It’s a Taycan in Audi drag. And, since electric motors are effectively identical, any performance differences are software related, not hardware. In other words, we don’t get the difference in character between Porsche and Audi specific engines.

So, to get this out of the way, I’m glad any time someone does a fun or interesting electric car. The more enthusiast-friendly variants of *every* car there, the better off we are.

That said, the C3 100/200/5000 is peak Audi to me (perhaps followed closely by the B5 A4). I know the correct choice would be the ur-Quattro, but those were a little exotic, while I knew people who drove assorted used 5000’s and A4’s. This is not those Audis. Even the modern Audis aren’t really those cars either, even if they haven’t strayed as far as this. I guess a reasonable point would be that this is no more extreme from a normal A4 than the Sport Quattro was from an Audi 80, and I should go back to yelling at clouds.

Nice car – could it indeed mean that we have reached “Peak Tesla” finally?

Still, I wonder who does their marketing and naming.

I mean: “ The base Premium Plus starts at $99,900”. Maybe “base Premium Plus” sounds better in Chinese, but in English, it reminds me of something from KMart.
