2024 Hyundai Santa Fe First Drive (psst… get the XRT!)

The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe arrives with seriously fresh style, good power from the gas engine, and an almost shockingly good XRT off-road-esque model. In fact, taking a look at the full lineup; the XRT is the one to buy!

[Disclaimer: Hyundai flew me to TN, put me up in a hotel, and fed me.]

Looks like a Ford Flex up front and a squared-off Toyota Previa in the rear. Not unattractive, but while I like the more classic boxy aesthetic, it’s the modern elements that don’t jibe with me. The grille texture, the line-lighting— as modern-but-simplified designs go, I like Rivian’s approach better.
I just don’t see anything hugely compelling here. A lot of “not bad” and “fine”, but no “gotta have this”. If I’m staying on-road, I see prettier, more comfortable, and better-performing options available. Off-road, there are far more capable and rugged choices. As a milquetoast tweener, I guess it serves the intended purpose. But I think the buyer of this is going to be the “normal” driver who just wants more of an outdoorsy-chic look.
