Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R Heritage Edition

2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R – Last Roar of a Legend

The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R is a wicked machine. There’s a flat-plane-cranking 5.2-liter V8 engine under the hood making 526 horsepower, tremendous noise, and perfect emotions. Put your right hand down and you’ll find a real-deal manual gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. And spits out that power through a set of super sticky Michelin Cup tires. The chassis setup, naturally aspirated powertrain, and monster brakes all equal a car that’s very good at going very fast. And this is it… the 2020 model year is the last one, for now.

So Ford is sending it off with a blue and white Heritage Edition model. It costs more than a GT500, and for some it might actually be *worth* more than that brutish beast. Either way, it’s a damn fine machine and we’re sorry to see it go.

[Disclaimer: Ford tossed us the keys to the Shelby GT350R and included a tank of fuel.]

The GT350 is still the sweet spot, in my opinion. I had a similar opinion regarding the Boss 302 back in 2013. It’s a high-water mark for the Mustang, and it’s being replaced by something more powerful, but not better.
