I don’t care for the Camaro.
I admire the 1st-gen cars and am starting to like the 2nd-gen examples, but all of the other ones? Never really gave them much of a thought. Nothing against Camaro fans and their rides, mind you, it’s just a vehicle that was never for me.
Now the 6th-generation Chevrolet Camaro has arrived… and it’s a whole different ballgame. This 2016 Camaro SS rides on the new Alpha Platform, and it transforms the car. Weight is down, while power is up and the interior space is better as well.
The greatest enemy of the Camaro is the Ford Mustang, and that Blue Oval-badged baddie typically wins the sales war. The latest Camaro, however, should win everywhere else… especially when it comes to places with corners and lap times.

Stark admission time: I have never understood muscle cars, and largely don’t care for them either.
American V8 in a European GT body? By and large, yes.
American V8 in a European saloon body? For the most part, you’ve got my attention.
American V8 in an American wagon, sedan, GT, or sports car? Sure, I can be tempted.
American V8 in a Camaro, Mustang, Challenger, Javelin, or other equivalent? I’d really rather just have a nice Renault 4, possibly with an American V8 in it.
These are cars that I just don’t understand. Power above all else makes perfect sense to me, but power that’s only good in a straight line doesn’t. I just. Don’t. Get. It.
With that said, however, the one – and only one – Camaro that I will admit to having a sneaking love for is that which was the subject of starting out as only so much driveway detritus in the film Better Off Dead before becoming the subject of a triumphant restoration montage.-
If I could take you for a drive in a 1970 Challenger, you’d understand the appeal… I guarantee it. It still might not be the car for you in the end, but you’d start to see the light.

And that is an offer I would happily take anyone up on – as you say, even if it’s not the type of car for me in the end, I’d like to at least have the experience so I can hopefully understand them a bit better.

Jeff, I liked the video–except the random shots of a red Camaro running through the canyon? Anyways, I am a die hard Chevrolet fan, and am particularly fond of the 1st gen Camaro’s. This is why it pains me to have to say how much better designed the 2016 Mustang is. The Camaro still looks like a cheesy transformers novelty toy… I think the chassis is great, the engine and transmission are great, but I just can’t get past the styling… I can say that the 6th gen is an improvement over the 5th, but they still have a ways to go to catch up to the styling of the Mustang.

The red shots are B-Roll shots from GM. I didn’t have time (or help) to get actual driving shots on this one, unfortunately.
However, I thought GM actually did a good job with their B-Roll as they left in the engine noise… Most automakers don’t include that.
