We’ll open with the stats: 260ci V8, 4-speed, power-top convertible 1963 Falcon. It’s got 5-lug hubs and an 8″ rearend. Quite the platform for a nice classic cruiser. Old Falcons weigh next to nothing, and the 260 would be a nice combo of power and economy, especially hooked to a proper gearbox. With a starting bid at $1,750 and a Buy It Now of $1950, it’s tempting…very tempting…

Where we sit on the “worth it?” scale depends on your level of optimism. All the parts are there, and have been since it was parked in a Wisconsin barn long, long ago. Plan on replacing every bit of synthetic material and fabric on the car. Might as well add the cost of a decent light-duty MIG welder and some sheetmetal supplies to that low, low price, as you’ll need to replace the floors along with a few other body panels.
Falcon_Sprint_Convertible_ (2)On one hand, this is a perfect candidate for a nuts-and-bolts numbers-matching restoration. On another way less expensive and equally fun hand, you could R&R most of the mechanical bits, tack in some new floors, and give the paint and chrome good rub-downs. Throw that top down (and leave it there) and hit the road.

    Third option: Massage this into an entry for the Carrera Panamicana! It's affordable, it's not so pristine that you'd feel bad about ripping out the interior and caging it, and being a convertible, that makes it easier. Build a Boss 302 and swap it in. It's a Falcon, so Mustang suspension pieces will fit. The timed sections take place on windy mountain roads, so a tight handling Falcon would completely rock. This would be a great car to race in the Carrera.

      A speedster-style setup (think half-size Topless Charger) would look pretty sweet with these early-sixties lines.

    I think the biggest cost will actually be paying the shady inspection officer to pass this thing without doing all the work you guys just described.

      Just depends on how rigid the safety standards in your region are. I had rusty floors on my old F-150 – screwing in $20 worth of sheet metal took care of that.

      Man, I love California. No safety inspections and pre-1975 (or diesel) is a smog free-for all.

        Actually in Alberta all you need is a licenced mechanic to sign and check off all the boxes on an inspection sheet (case of beer and $20 would do this thing). I just said inspection officer because of the people who do live in the more anal of the 50 states.

    Our wedding theme is kind of unclear, we can’t seem to picture it. We want to have an elegant evening reception that pulls in the sun, moon and stars.
