Your new old grocery getter, now in Ford V8 form

wagon
It’s a 1967 Ford wagon. There’s a lightly juiced up V8 under the hood. The patina is right, the wheels are right, and the price is under $7,000. You need to buy this now. Do it, and the Hooniverse Gods will smile down upon you for the next 1,000 years (which is how long this car can survive if you keep it in the right climate).

These cars are well and truly weird, as they’re kind of a mashup between a Falcon and a Fairlane.

Yeah they were strange. I guess the compact wagon sales just weren’t there in the later 60’s The Chevy II/Nova, Dart and Valliant all lost their wagon versions. So I guess Ford decided the only way to make money on the segment was to consolidate the Fairlane and Falcon wagons. So the Falcon got a little longer wheel base than the sedan and the Fairlane got a shorter wheel base than its sedan counterpart.
Seems like they sort of shot themselves in the foot with that strategy. It put Fairlane at a disadvantage vs the competitive intermediates, especially the extended Vista Cruiser and Sport Wagon and it also put it at a disadvantage with the same sized presumably lower priced Falcon sitting on the same lot.

Yeah, the Nova lost its wagon on the ’68 restyle, and the Dart/Valiant were gone after ’66, leaving only the Rambler American wagon, only available in the uplevel 440 trim.
What I’d like to see is a ’68 Falcon sedan and Falcon wagon parked side-by-side or head-to-head. Since the wagon is a midsize, I’d expect it to use a wider version of the sedan grill, and fenders specific to the wagon.

Looks like the price is lowering by the hour.
I like it but not $6900.
