Continuing on with the Weekend in which i highlight entries from the facebook pages of Wagons HO! and the Ornch Car Cult, this is a 1983 Jeep Cherokee Chief offered in Colorado. According to Wikipedia, the term “Sport Utility” appeared for the first time in the 1974 Cherokee sales brochure. So, let’s take a look at this groundbreaking vehicle, and see if you want it…

The Cherokee was a redesigned reintroduction of a two-door body style that was once a pert of the Jeep Wagoneer line from 1963 to 1967. This time, AMC decided to name it the Cherokee, and market it with several trim options. The trim designations included S (Sport), Chief, Golden Eagle, Golden Hawk, Limited, Classic, Sport, Pioneer, and Laredo. In 1975, the Cherokee Chief package was introduced. Aside from trim changes, this model received larger fenders and wider axles, allowing larger tires to be fitted to further improve off-road ability.

According to the listing for this 1983 version:

Selling my 1983 Cherokee Chief. Bought this with the intention of building it up, but my new job has me too busy and I just don’t have the time. Equipment includes:
360
TF727 Transmission
4″ Spring Lift
1.5″ Body Lift
36X14.5X15 Super Swampers
Auxiliary Fuel Tank
Dana 44 Front (Wide Track)
Model 20 Rear (Wide Track)

The engine runs great. I’ve rebuilt the carb, installed new brakes on the rear diff, and gave the engine a tune up. Tranny shifts perfect. Power windows work. Some things that are needed are listed below:
Gauges don’t have power so none work at the moment.
Not sure how the aux. fuel tank system works. Switch under dash, but haven’t dug into it to see how it all functions.
AC unit under dash was broken so I removed it.
Interior is worn
Some rust in fender flares, etc.

I also have a set of diffs from a 2003 F350 that I was going to install in a separate listing that I would be willing to make a package deal on. These have the RuffStuff covers, U bolt kits, Torque arm kit and would make a great mod to the rig.
