Continuing on with our strange weekend postings, and here is another Chrysler, only ten years newer. Chrysler was in a state of extreme distress during the late 1970’s, so much so that they sought a Government Bailout Guarantee to help keep the production lines going. They were just about to introduce a new kind of car in the fall of 1980 (the infamous “K” cars) which gave the struggling number three automaker some breathing room, but it was the evergreen Minivans of 1983 that really saved Chrysler’s bacon at that time. However, they really couldn’t give up on their core customers, who were still demanding cars with posh interiors, styling cues like vinyl roofs, and stand-up hood ornaments. So, here is a New Yorker, packed with all of those goodies retirees demanded at that time, coupled with a Turbocharged 2.2L Four Cylinder engine. It’s like this Chrysler has a case of Dual Personalities…

This is the 1987 Chrysler New Yorker that is in reality, nothing but a stretched “K” car introduced almost seven years prior. This really had all the styling gimmicks from the Malaise Era troweled onto it including a Chrome Encrusted Grill, Stand-Up Chrystal Hood Ornament, Side Cornering Lights, 1/4 Padded Landau Roof, Wire Wheel Covers, Illuminated Opera Lamp, and a Deck Lid Emblem.

Inside, the detailing includes Button Tufted Leather Like seats, Retractable Door-Pulls, Digital Instrumentation (With an early version of a Trip Computer), Silver Finished Stereo Components, and plush carpeting, all in a shade of red that you will never see inside a modern car again.

According to the listing:

Ultra nice rock solid body 1-owner Missouri Chrysler New Yorker Turbo! This is pristine very nice survivor un-restored original loaded New Yorker! This one looks great in and out and looks to have had years of love! Only 83k org mile! This car looks more like a 5 year old not a 27 year old! The paint shows excellent, the vynal top shows excellent, interior is nice and leather is soft, the chrome is excellent! We could go on and on with this one but hopefully you get the point! The 2.2L fuel injected Turbo runs great and automatic shifts out spot on! Full power with tilt/cruise, leather wrapped steering wheel, cold ac, factory led dash lights work excellent, dual power seats, nice wire wheels with good set of radials and much more! This one is parked in our showroom it is that nice!

With 18 days to go until the listing ends, the Buy-It-Now price for this rather confusing New Yorker is $4,990. This is one of those cars that should be preserved to show future generations how totally messed up cars of the 80’s were. I like it, but we all know how weird I am, but what do you think?
