Most know McLaren from their historical home in Formula One, but through their McLaren Automotive arm they have been competing in GT3 series races all throughout the world. Most recently, they were at the 12 hours of Bathurst taking place at Mount Panorama in Australia.
They were a tad successful.
McLaren went on to win pole, shatter the official lap record, and win the race in commanding fashion. The video above was the story of coming and winning pole, and the one below is the full onboard of the pole-winning, record-breaking lap.

McLaren is currently at the top of their game in their automotive division, and I can only hope they keep moving onward and upwards.

McLaren: even more performance and pedigree than a Ferrari without all the ‘baggage’ of the Ferrari badge and the colour red.
Nowadays Ferraris aren’t cars. They are devices to sell the trademarked ‘Ferrari World’ ‘life experience’ and as much branded merchandise that can possibly be conceived, from sex toys to Sedgeways.
    McLarens are just supercars.

The winning car was run by Tekno Autosports who are one of the smaller teams in V8 Supercars. They are going to run 3 650S’ in this year’s Australian GT championships. There were about a dozen people out from McLaren to assist the teams in the 12 hour too, and other than a few minor but potentially significant hiccups (and contact damage) the cars ran strongly with the unfortunate exception of the Quinn’s entry (they have been the most prominent local McLaren exponents).
The winning car stopped on the pit straight for 45 seconds, and at each subsequent pit stop they would also Reservoir the car as a precaution. This was the reason for the late race pit lane speed violation, because the limiter was not activated when the car restarted and left the box.
However they had speed to burn, to put it mildly, having broken not only the GT but the outright lap record with a 2:01.5 lap, 0.9 seconds faster than Chiyo in the GTR.
The best part is the new generation of cars will be eligible for next year’s race, so the field should be even more enticing!

Yeah, great to see the Gis win in his first out with the Tekno GT team. He’ll be one to watch when the V8 boys hit the mountain.

I’ve been watching Bathurst for decades and I’ve never seen corner speed like that! Wow!

I’m hoping to see a little Kiwi Orange on the 2016 F1 cars…
