Was That Really Necessary?

4x4 Mitsubishi DSM eclipse for sale4x4 Mitsubishi DSM eclipse for sale
It’s Friday, so you’re probably in a good mood. We’re here to ruin that with this ’82 Bronco chassis-ed ’98 Eclipse. It’s managed to combine a body kit with 33 inch tires. A bumping single 15″ sub with a Hazzard County grade push bar. The Eclipse strikes a somewhat “urban” note, but it’s photographed in front of a mobile home in Macon, Georgia.
If the seller had let loose with a bunch of lame decals and stick-on portals, he’d have pretty much every low-end automotive stereotype rolled into one. If you’ve got “$1”, a 4-door truck, V8 Mustang, drag car or 4Runner, you could make this your own and for the love of God burn it to the ground complete the ensemble. Craigslist, of course.
Hat tip to LTD Scott!

    "Was That Really Necessary?"
A very tough question. A lot of things in this world aren't "necessary." If you know what I mean? Why does a family sedan need 400+ hp? Why does a car have to go 0-60 in 4 secs? The list goes on and on…It is necessary because, someone, somewhere desires one. It may not to be the liking of everyone but hey whatever floats his/her boat.
    I need more coffee.

    How about something more ridiculous.

At least he managed to lineup the wheels with the wheel openings…

Yeah, if you're going to go through the effort of a questionable swap, at least think it through.

        1. FuzzyPlushroom Avatar

That EXP, hell, I'd have it painted, but I'd drive that occasionally.

          1. JeepyJayhawk Avatar

If they ran a bit smaller tire, they could actually tuck that suspension up a bit more and I might look like the Hulk's rally car…

Do red necks just wake up from a dream and say " I gots to puta car on top of a 4X4 frame, then my cousin sue-anne will have to go out with me"

  8. citroen67 Avatar

It's hard to state the obvious and not sound like a dick, but does it really surprise anyone that this thing is parked in front of a trailer house in Georgia? The only items that are not in the photo that would make this abortion 'par for the course' is a "Type R" decal and a Rebel flag license plate.
Don't get me wrong…I don't mind the looks of the Mitsu, and I loves me some lifted 4×4 action, but mix the two and it's a fail-fail cocktail of epic proportions.

    Lifting a '98 Eclipse isn't normal.
    But on Meth it is.

    1. Gnauty Avatar

It was originally built in Normal, IL. Just struck me as funny.

It's the Local Motors Rally Fighter! Wow, I didn't think it would be going on sale for a while . . .

  11. Smells_Homeless Avatar

If the Bronco was anything like my old Bronco, replacing the entire body makes more sense than trying to fix it. Of course, I probably would have looked for something with a similar wheelbase. Country Squire maybe.

  12. JeepyJayhawk Avatar

The fin is a nice touch. Gotta keep the down-force on those tires… yo!

    1. joshuman Avatar

I'm sure those tires see sooooo much mud.

      1. JeepyJayhawk Avatar

Don't know if those tires have enough tread left to even look at mud. I just thought it was ironic.

A Deep-South re-interpretation of the BMW X6. Or maybe the Acura ZDX.
Can't deny the similarity in profile.

    1. smokyburnout Avatar

Maybe it's just because I've got a 3.5 inch screen here, but I seriously had to do a double take before I realized it wasn't an X6.

      1. Charles_Barrett Avatar

Well, ahem… I'm sporting more than 3.5 inches (grins), and I am tickled that I am not totally out of my mind for the X6 comparison.

        my thoughts exactly.

  16. FuzzyPlushroom Avatar

If the wheel wells lined up, the wheels weren't totally garish, and it didn't have that awful wing, it might not actually be so bad. Logically, it solves the Bronco's body rot and the DSM's perpetual integrity issues (who's up for crankwalk?)… but the execution is, wow, just nasty.
I'd buy it for a dollar, but no more.

    1. JeepyJayhawk Avatar

Aren't you in college? Couldn't that dollar buy something useful like drugs or booze?

      1. FuzzyPlushroom Avatar

I'd rather fuck myself up in an interesting manner, I think. Worst case, I could make a profit on the scrap.
