So it has been nearly six weeks ago since this olelongrooffan hung up my carpentry tool belt for the last time and started selling motorcycle, automobile and cargo trailers. In that six weeks I have sold about forty trailers. The worst part of my new job? I don’t have the time to wander around the Birthplace of Speed and catch sight of some cool stuff to share with my fellow Hoons. Well, today was an exception to that.

I was commissioned to install a spring loaded hinge on a door over at The Car Shop and needed a few specialty screws for the project. Well, a trip to Daytona Bolt and Nut was required and on the way, this olelongrooffan spotted this 1960 Austin Healey Sprite at a sister repair facility.

It is a faded shade of robin’s egg blue with a trio of funky strips running the length of it. According to the sticker on the rear of this little beauty, it came from Supreme Motors in the hometown of Hemmings Motor News, Bennington, Vermont. Now this olelongrooffan is a real geek as I knew that bit of trivia as I took the above image.

I was surprised to see it badged as being Supercharged and well as something German on the oval underneath its name.

But this olelongrooffan simply loved the play on words the license plate reflected as these Sprites are known as Bugeyes.

My older brother, Bus-Plunge, back in the early 70’s had a vintage Triumph Spitfire that possessed similar rear tail lights and he mentioned they were rather difficult to come by. I can only imagine the difficulty of finding one of these 42err 52 year old lenses now.

It possesses a face only its mother could love.

And the coat of arms on the id badge is a nice touch.

I spotted the removable side windows in the Corvettelike cubby hole in the rear and noticed there are no exterior door handles.

The lever to the rear of the passenger door is what is used to open the doors although if the side windows are installed, I’m not sure how this would work. But hey, British engineering is the best, isn’t it?

And surprisingly to this olelongrooffan, this oleragtop has a bunch of dash gauges for a car, even a sports car, of this vintage.

And with Speedweeks and BikeWeek over and the Spring Turkey Run out at the Daytona International Speedway next weekend,I hope this olelongrooffan will have the opportunity to get a little work done on the “Charles Barrett Special” and pop up a post or two for my fellow Hoons to enjoy.
