Year after year Ford keeps stepping up its game with the Mustang. The 2018 model will have 460 horsepower out of its five point oh vee eight. With the optional GT Performance Package it won’t be far behind the GT350 around many tracks. But with all those goodies comes a high price. Check off all the boxes and you’re looking to spend over fifty grand on your loaded GT coupe. 
But there is another way, another Mustang. While it does not have a V8 engine, it is all wheel drive and it goes like stink. And, at $279.99 is much more affordable. The only problem with it is that it is one tenth of the size of the real Mustang. But that doesn’t make this Traxxas RC Mustang any less fun. 


The Traxxas Mustang GT 4-Tec 2.0 is set on an new all-wheel-drive chassis, designed with low center of gravity in mind. Like the real GT350, it is a Mustang that’s designed to handle. It has four wheel independent suspension and adjustable shocks at each corner allow fine tuning. Behind the staggered wheels are realistic looking rotors and calipers. And if you want a different body than the lexan ’17 Mustang GT shell that it comes with, the adjustable mounts will accommodate many others. 
The 2.4GHz controller does not have the Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) which works sort like traction control in real cars, allowing the RC vehicle to get more traction and making it easier to drive. It also does not have a brushless motor but the price reflects both of these shortcomings. But there is a waterproof servo and receiver. 
The Stang comes full assembled and ready to race but you will need to provide your own batteries and a charger. You can have any color as long as it’s black. With a  7-cell NiMH battery, high speed gearing (included), and an experienced driver (optional) it will hit 30MPH. For people who have never played with an RC car that may seem slow but it isn’t. 

RC cars are also great as a parent/child hobby as it will help develop hand-eye coordination, repair and troubleshooting skills, and improve general mechanical knowledge for the little one. It will likely force the parents to develop more patience and spend a little time cursing once the kiddo crashes the damn thing. The payout could be that an RC car is cheaper to replace than a real car once the youngster get his/her license. 
While not as advanced or dramatic as the Land Rover Defender 110 crawler, it is very cool in its own right. Like the Defender, it is licensed product, by Ford in this case, which also licensed the Raptor and the GT supercar for Traxxas. This Mustang is a really nice RC car for someone who has had some experience. For those who cannot afford the real thing, or aren’t allowed to legally drive, this is a pretty solid alternative.
