The Snowed-In Weekend Antithesis: Beach Blast 19, The Car Show

IMG_1114

There really isn’t a Last Call on weekends, as such, this olelongrooffan thought I might pop this in just for our Finnish friends.

Several weeks ago Many months ago back when this olelongrooffand drove up and down the highways and byways of this Sunshine State staying off the Eisenhower Highway System, I cruised up US 1 to Cocoa Beach and attended the 19th Annual Beach Blast Car Show. The first time I attended this show it was quite by accident. This year, I made a specific trip up to check out this cool ass beachside show.

And this olelongrooffan was not disappointed. One of the largest, and coolest, cars I spotted was this 1958 Cadillac El Dorado ragtop.

However judging by the coolant laden beach blanket underneath the engine compartment of this Harley Earl Design Studio creation, its drive to the beach that day was a warm one.

This show, in its 19th edition, admits a fairly diverse offering of four wheel vehicles at its beachfront show. This is the same show where this olelongrooffan spotted that pair of ’56 Belairs I shared with my fellow Hoons in this spouting of my opinion about stock vs. original.

As this olelongrooffan was walking around checking out that sweet Eldo convertible, I saw this 39 or 40 Plymouth ragtop. I got to chatting it up with the owner and he was a proud of it as could be possible. I mentioned to him that it appeared the width of the axles appeared to be rather unique. He proudly stated the body on his rod was transplanted to a later model frame and that explained that. He then continued to chat it up about how cool he thought his ride was. Well, this olelongrooffan will concede it was a sweet ride and I did not even mention a restomod to him.

I took my leave of this oletimer, although, realistically, he is probably just a decade or so older than this olelongrooffan and headed down the tennis courts of that beachfront resort to spot this super sweet Ford Falcon Sprint.

IMG_1121

Yeah, this burgundy over black sweety with that two speed automatic sure tripped my trigger that day. Add in the bucket seats and that chromed console and I am in love with this one.

IMG_1122

And an economical 260 V8 just takes the cake for this olelongrooffan.
IMG_1123

I’m not really sure what year this sweet old side pipe possessing Corvette is but this one was pretty modified. As a bonus, this past weekend on the boobtube, I saw a stock ’63 with the same hardtop purchased up at Mecum for $32,000.00. The older couple, yeah with the same caveat about age, was bearing grins from ear to ear with happiness about their purchase.

IMG_1124

Just a ways more toward the beach, this R107 was spotted. Now as I tend to be more sedan and longroof oriented in my Mercedes choices, I thought every Benz bore the designation of “W-“. Well my fellow Hoons, after a little wiki education, this olelongrooffan’s education about all things Mercedes has changed up perceptibly.

IMG_1125

However, I do have this to say about that. I could find no references to this SBC bearing two seater.

IMG_1127

If my fellow Hoons can embiggem the above image, you can see, along with my paws holding that image taker, a list of all of the modifications this dude has done to this classic Mercedes Benz.

IMG_1128

Meh, in my humble opinion.

IMG_1129

But then again, there are always different strokes for different folks.

IMG_1130

And sitting just a Tri-5 BowTie away from that R107 was this sweet Galaxie Blue Oval from, this olelongrooffan believes, 1963. Other than the wheels on this baby blue ragtop, everything else appears to be as it should be.

IMG_1131

Right down to the power under the hood. Unlike the engine under the hood of that R107, this engine could actually be purchased under the hood of a 1963 Galaxie.

IMG_1132

As well as a period GT40 (hello Skaycog), AC Cobra MKIII, the AC Fura and many other homologation offerings from the Blue Oval.

IMG_1133

And speaking of blue and an oval, if there a Hoon out there who doesn’t enjoy this color ride with the row your own transmission and a stark white interior?

This grouping of vehicles represents about half the cool *ssed rides this olelongrooffan spotted that sunny May afternoon on the central Florida beaches at that Beach 19 show. Who knows, it is possible this longrooffan will quit procrastinating my ways and get the remainder up here to share with my fellow Hoons.

Mercury Cyclone anyone?
