Jalopnik ran a great post this morning showing a Volvo Sugga parked on a London street. That’s one hell of a find. Especially in the middle of London! But cool cars prevail the world over and carspotting is a global game. What are some of the greatest that you’ve found while out and about?
Carspotting is fun. Especially when you’re in an area away from home. This is where you have a high likelihood of coming across the new, unusual, and interesting. Friend-of-Hooniverse Elana Scherr does a great job posting the random cars she finds to her Instagram page. I post some cool finds myself on occasion. In fact, I came across one yesterday while exploring beyond my own neighborhood.
This one isn’t technically street parked, of course. But it was in the driveway just a few feet from the sidewalk. Quarantine rules apply here today, so I’m letting this one slide. The car above is a 1989 Ford Mustang transformed by Saleen into the SSC Mustang. I’m a sucker for specific license plates, so this one is a double-fun spot for me.
What have you spotted? Share your pics in the comments below.
The Sugga really is a crazy thing. I tried to find a video from the early days of YouTube, where someone put a massive Dodge engine into a TP21 and went wild on it – leaving much of the interior as is, except for some sound-deadening. Didn’t find it, but this one with only an unforgivable choice of steering wheel is quite close:
Cars I like need neither be particularly fast, nor good, nor pretty. My favourites are pretty much what I find on vacation. A craptacular Moskovich, similar to what my uncle had while we were still trapped behind a real and an imaginary wall:

My most unlikely sighting must surely be this Rancho. A few years back now!

Ok, for the record: I have never heard of, nor seen an image of, this vehicle before. I just learned something new.
On my rally trip this winter I of course saw plenty of cool cars that were not on racetracks but this recce car was just parked downtown in front of the supermarket we were going to

Narrowing this down to just one is damn near impossible. Let’s just go for a few recent ones. And one oldie of an orphan Pontiac. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/217e3dea5e1293b3be549728bffd6966157e84cbd2bbe2664f70377f9ecd1c21.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9fe5ec44216859ce723addb1ab5faaa6fad48edc00387967e5d86ed558ac0162.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/099718b282fdd38427266394e94a205a3d3173a2cb6a85505ee43a678cbe2f29.jpg https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/31c4a848d7cad2f9fbf5b05613578cb69ba77fd237aa6a7a15b86a154fd09293.jpg
The Pontiac is great. Reminds me of this over-the-top potential RV:

That DeSoto is one sweet car.
Oh wow, I can’t agree more. That DeSoto is fantastic.
At the Farmer’s market (probably brought in the harvest from the Spaghetti tree).

Coolest street-parked car that I’ve seen, ever? Porsche Carrera GT, parked in Carmel, CA, a day or two after Historics one year (which I blew off in favor of a visit to Bonneville Speed Week at the same time)…. but I can’t find that image. Best that I could find on the memory card is a street-parked Bristol 405, that I saw in Grand Haven, MI, a block from Lake Michigan, one summer day. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/c9b0d59ff4a3c7721f7db7c48e8affe7c34c7a3786cb23b26046bd77b2748c0d.jpg

These are from our trip to Isreal:
This Aston was parked a few hundred yards from the wailing wall:

Police near the wailing wall had this Pajero and a GM van badged SavanaMAX.

Most older cars in Isreal were beat, this BMW Compact was a notable exception:

Saw this two on our trip to NYC this past September, the Caddy was in Brooklyn, I think the Olds was in New Jersey on the way home. Sadly, I failed to take a picture of the Brooklyn street parked Citroen DS.
