Revlimiter.net's Amazing Custom DIY Gauge Faces

revlimiter.net custom miata gauges tach speedo
A friend of Hooniverse passed this along to us, and it was too good not to share with the masses. The tutorial is for a Miata but with some modification it will probably work for any gauge cluster you can throw at it. But it’s not for the faint of heart … are you up to the challenge?

Revlimiter.net estimates the process will take up to 80 hours if you include the time it takes to design your custom gauge faces. Thankfully a basic template for the Miata is provided. Much of the rest of the time is spent carefully aligning, cutting, and gluing together the various layers … ensuring of course that you don’t get any fingerprints on any of them. Easy? No, but it’s probably pretty satisfying to watch the needle swing into your custom designed tachometer’s “HOON” zone. And by the way, if anyone does this and happens to label their redline with the word “HOON,” you get extra super Hooniverse bonus points.

Simpsons references always equal a good time in my book… which is currently on sale nowhere since I havent written it yet.

I don't have any HOON gauges, but I do have a bunch of keyboard buttons that are red and labeled RACE. They are about 1.5" x .7" and will glue/tape nicely to a car interior.

An alternative to the redline being labeled "HOON" would be a boost gage labeled thusly. Bonus points if the boost gage is on a Dodge Shadow.

All this guy's website did for me is make me realize how badly I want a Miata. 2nd Gen, in white or silver, please. Leather would also be nice, but I can live without it.

In fairness, it's mostly from another site.
But we'll give you an "awwww, shucks" just the same.
Too bad you're not in LA, we've got something planned for this weekend involving over 800hp and some abandoned desert roads…

I knew that gauge cluster looked familiar! I pulled the cluster on my 1994 Miata when I was changing the speedo cable. Too bad I didn't know about this at the time—doing the mod would've been a cinch.
