RESULTS: 100 cars we owned and 1 is a lie!

On Friday we ran a contest called “Here are 100 cars we owned and 1 is a Lie!” based on the awful Facebook “here are 10 bands I seen live and 1 is fake” thing that Bradley and Jeff just love. Despite the many comments, guesses and searches, no proper answer was provided over three days and nights. Therefore, sadly, there is no winner.
Without further ado, the one vehicle none of us owned is…

None of us owned the mighty Land Rover Discovery!

Land Rover vehicles have been written about extensively on this here website but despite that none of us has ever owned one. Jeff and I love most of the new and old big Landies. Bradley was impressed by the new Discovery. We have owned Jeeps, Isuzus, and Toyota 4x4s, but one one has ever owned a Land Rover Discovery, or any other Land Rover product. I have to admit that I was once close to buying a Defender 90. Jeff was eyeing a Disco before he pulled the trigger on the Benz, and I’m sure that are many other such examples.
Perhaps because we’re just too broke to buy new ones and too smart to buy old ones. Perhaps that despite their quickly deprecating values, none of was just brave enough to battle the potentially pricey issues. That’s a shame because buying a used Landy would create a lot of content for the site, especially if it was under CarMax warranty.
Here, once again, in alphabetical order, the list of the cars we did own and the name of the person who owned them. Thanks for playing!

    But UD Mike owned one!

You’re thinking of someone else. UD Mike had the Oldsmobile 44.

You know, I’ve been saying for a long time now that I had a Geo Prizm, but that’s not true. That car was so forgettable that my memory never triggered the mistake: It was actually a Geo Storm.

So, that was a potential answer, but no one guessed that either.

I still have a login here, so that one’s covered.

Has David L. ever written about his 1800S here? It’s an iconic car, and I’d like to read more about it.

A neighbor gave it to me for free, and it took thirty dollars to get it running. Like a ding dong, I sold it because I lived in the city with nowhere to park it. I have to dig up some photos and get a short write up out. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/149150fa19d24e36c1a256627dd2e2b6581ba893ca381bd60575accd4b653f82.jpg

Honestly, a free 1800? Nice. Today, a pretty tired one will command more than that:

        Very interesting!

Yeah, no doubt. It is one of my most regrettable car sales. Plus, my wife loved it – my Scout not as much. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/bc4522720c1625166ac08332b64063053124525aa1c491f0666f23b154dccfe2.jpg

Wow…I expected something a little more caramel-diseased and unevenly coloured, to say the least. Amazing. Good ones today are breaching 20k $.

This list could actually prove to be quite helpful if any of us are considering purchasing cars that are on it. For example, I’m cross-shopping the Chevy Avalanche with the Cadillac Escalade EXT. Maybe Ross B. would be kind enough to chime in with his Avalanche ownership experience? Interestingly enough, there are no Cadillacs whatsoever on the list.

    1. Kamil K Avatar

A guy named Juan used to contribute, he had a CTS-V. I don’t think he loved it.

    2. Kamil K Avatar

Yes, I’m sure he can chaine in…

Also noteworthy: no Camaros or Firebird / Trans-Ams. (Or Thunderbirds / Cougars for that matter.)

No Thundercougarfalconbirds either. It’s wonderful that they don’t care whether anyone questions their sexual orientation.

In the original thread, my brain read Mitsubishi Sapporo as Plymouth Sapporo, so my mind picked that one. I have to say, I now appreciate the writers here a lot more, since you’re all smart enough not to have owned a Discovery.

Rob Emslie owned an Audi Fox? FInally, there’s someone else out there who can appreciate the ambivalence I felt toward mine.
