TowerofPower…….Hey, hi! The sunken ships in the Great Lakes sound interesting to me. I love ship/treasure hunting shows on TV. There used to be a series about it, but I don't know if it's still on or not. The Swedish meal you had sounds pretty yummy, and the goats grazing on the roof of the restaurant is funny. Good job on finding new place here! Not much new going on in my life……the snow two days ago was wonderful. Have a great weekend!

Hi Tower,
Thanks for finding the new place! It always takes a long time. Sorry to hear you are busy again, but the end of October is soon. I will have to try and go to the Al Johnsons someday, that's something about those goats and roof! I went to some shipwreck museums around the great lakes as a kid, there's that Gordon Lightfoot song, "The Wreck of the Edmunds Fitzgerald" that's pretty haunting. Man they don't sing ballads like that anymore.
Skaycog,
I had no time for dragging after that party, the other ass. coach could not make the game. One of the strippers asked me if I like Mac or Windows more (!) I replied that I really only care for FreeBSD. She was confused, I then went on explaining about the deamon mascot Beastie, that did not help. Anyway I think the strippers though I had some creepy penguin fetish, maybe ToP gets how that could have happened. I'll leave it there because being ambiguous like that can be funny in your imagination I am sure! That's great about the snow! Here we had frost in the morning, the Volvo had to be outside, warmed-up like a Swede it did though!

I was originally leaving Wednesday, the 2nd, but since they're predicting some inclement weather in CO Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, I'm going to leave Tuesday morning, if I get things done. I'll be back the following weekend, 5th or 6th. I see that I screwed up on my comment number, so I edited it to the correct number, which makes yours wrong. Hahaha! I've now convinced myself you are delivering a Ford GT trophy to Texas. That's gotta be it, no other explanation possible. Anyway have fun, careful to not have the weather turn while on route though. The floor materials came in, I should start soon. I don't know if I wrote this before, but I decided that it would look really bad unless I did the entire room so I'm doing it all. One thing, I wish Aga had told me earlier that the floor was in already at the store because I saw my dad last two days and could have gotten the table saw from him. Anyway I see my parents almost every week, so shouldn't be too long now. Also Aga called a guy to fix the garage door so that's all ready for today! Kevin is excited to jump out at people. We have a scarecrow kid in my Volvo as well as one adult that was run over by it.

Hi BB,
I had a great weekend, we had game night over at our place and Aga made it all Halloween themed. Everybody really liked that. You have a great memory for something that happened more than ten years ago, trust me, things are going to get all muddled as you get older! I have to leave soon, going to finish-up some last minute touches on the decorations and take some kids around for candy. The head soccer coach is not going to be at the next practice, she will be at SEMA. Man she's lucky. It was funny when she said it, the other ass. coach and his wife were there too and I was all, "Oh boy, get photos of the cars, man they never turn out the same though in photos as in person!" And the wife said, I can see you are excited. I guess most people get excited about Las Vegas for other reasons.

@MZS: Hello MZS, how did the Halloween candy handing out go? No kids came here like last year, so we just ate all of the candy, Haha πŸ˜‰ I think the reason they don't come is that there is a Halloween party at one of the town homes a day before so all of the kids that live here just go to that one.

Hi BB,
<img src="http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/5892/halloweenx506.jpg" width="500"> Halloween was great! Jake did 2 hours of trick or treating with me and then some more with Aga and Michelle. Kevin stayed back the whole time scaring people in the garage. When it got dark, it was great because they could not see him until he sneaked-up on them. He really liked to scare the teenagers the best. There were a lot less trick or treaters this year than in years past though. At one point we thought it was because the garage was too scary, so we set-up a chair by the car outside for kids too scared to go in, but really it was only two kids that decided not to go in, there simply were so many less people out getting candy this year. Oh well. The cars we have left over, Aga is making a goody bags for the soccer team (soccer practice is today BTW). They will go in there. For girls Aga had notebooks. We also gave candy.
One neat thing is that a lady was walking and she saw the Amazon. She left her kids across the street and ran over. Then was asking Aga tons of questions about the car. She was from Sweden and was back here on vacation. They used to live nearby and I worked with her husband. Well Aga did not know many answers, oh well. Yesterday at work I saw her husband. I walked up to him and started talking. He had earbuds in and was sitting at a notebook, turns-out it was an audio chat with his work, oops! Anyway at around 3:30 I saw him again and a whole bunch of people were catching-up with him. Yes his wife had told him about the car, but neater was one of the other guys I work with does a really neat garage and I got a bunch of good ideas for next here. He has a Spitfire and it's so small he was able to work it in as part of the decoration inside his garage even!

msz, zsm, mpg…….Howdy, ya'll! Yes, I have a bit of a drawl now which my friends here will think is hilarious. It'll go away soon, I hope; it usually does. It was a good thing that I left to go a day early, as my town got 7" snow and there was snow along the route also. The weather there was cool and WINDY, but that didn't deter my fun time with friends. I got home Sunday afternoon after gaining two hours (one back to standard time and the other time zone change.) It was a fun drive both ways on mostly 4-lane highways now. So, I put about 1000 miles on my Explorer. It sounds like you had a fun Halloween with good weather. I got a kick out of Kevin staying home to scare the kids. I have a lot to do at home now, but having some R&R time with friends was worth it.

Hi Skaycog,
Welcome back. That's a lot of snow, glad you had fun with friends. Aga keeps talking about some place with great doughnuts in Texas, the plan is next vacation is there, and I think a lot of it has to do with those, ha! I'll have to find out what place that is. I had a busy weekend, Aga is working more now since Christmas is approaching so I watched the kids. I wanted to surprise Aga, so I did a lot around the house, big things was to clean-up the garage, now we have both cars in there again which is good for winter. We also had two soccer games and a den field trip (fire station and history museum). Also two play dates for our kids and we went to see my parents and brother. I got the saw and a bunch of tools then, I had all the soccer stuff and all that in the back of the Volvo plus the three kids, that felt good πŸ™‚

zms, smz, sno…………….Those great doughnuts in Texas must be pretty darn good to plan a vacation there. Did you find out where in Texas it is? Even when on a diet, you gotta eat something fattening occasionally. Your grits, eggs and bacon would do me just fine, except I'd want hash browns. Grits are okay, but I like potatoes more. I guess BB and I have decided to end the 10,000 goal on Stormchasers. We made it to 8304 anyway. Even if we did make it, nobody would give a hoot. We got 2" snow here last night, and it has already melted……..good moisture. Have a Happy Taco Tuesday!

HI Skaycog,
But I was 1.8lb more this morning than last, yikes! Anyway my plan is to be under 200lb before Thanksgiving so that when spring comes I will be under 205lb like I like to be, not like last time around. I forgot to ask Aga about the doughnut place, oh well, it was busy day. Poor Aga had a rotten day at work yesterday with a really mean lady on the phone, but talking with me helped. I left the den leader meeting early to walk Max and so that she could go over to a friend's, that helped too. Andrew was able to be there this time and when I left the lady doing the wreath sales came to give-out everything. Well she had not done much of anything and poor Andrew was up late filling everything out for 9 boys with his really understanding wife! I have been planning the next meeting, have been some screw-ups so last minute changes. Basically we forgot to ask the vet if we can come, ha! But we forgot to notice that this is the last meeting to do certain other things anyway, so we are moving-up the meeting from Dec to Thursday and December becomes kids make a commercial for a local access cable TV station. That's prety cool I think. This morning I came in to work, and there was a really unpleasant email, but that's all sorted now too.

Hi BB,
Oh it's no big deal, many of the same people are here, the ones I missed, some stop in from time to time. In fact Sparky helped me to get back into eating grits in one of these threads here for example, see what good comes of all this! Some day Skay will see the light on that, just needs to make them right once I bet. I started the numbers like they were over at jalop anyway. We can pretend it's like when Tinley Park ampitheater or New Comisky Park got new names but were the same otherwise or something if you like πŸ˜‰
Is this the first time you vote? Did I ever write how my friend or I were scammed in some dirty Chicago voting stuff? If not let me know and I'll write about it, Chicago politics is DIRTY! My week has been really good except for some rough things I wrote to Skay, but work has been great. I just figured-out a bug that has been bugging (ha) us for two weeks. It was one of those things where I was looking in the wrong place, turns-up the system is fine, just a handful of programs do the wrong thing that they are supposed to and guess which programs I tested with, yup those. That felt good. I've actually fixed a bunch of bugs this week and the last, been a good week at work. Also today I met with Bob when he went to training a week early. That was great, while he was here my boss stopped in cause he wanted to make sure I was alright regarding the morning email, that was really nice of him, and we all started talking about cosmology and super novas of all things. Man I love this place. Another thing, I was having some trouble to shift into second in the Volvo yesterday, so was doing 1, 3, 4. This morning Aga helped me. It was not what I thought (hydraulic leak) but simply that the nuts for the clutch fork and loosened and backed down. She's awesome cause she knew where the clutch should engage and we able to get it adjusted very quickly, great since it was raining. Man I love her!

Hi BB,
I hope your aunt is doing better! For a 75 year old surgery recovery is always very hard. I'm glad that the Ohio election went that way for the unions. I try and avoid politics unless it's funny or related to my family's history, but it really bothered me what happened in Wisconsin, and sadly the protests have petered-off. People are just strange, when we did the tour of the fire station for cub scouts, Firefighter Greg made a few comments that surprised me. For example they could not watch any TV unless it was weather before 5PM. Apparently it bothered some tax payers. Now I see it as a job like they need to be there and most of the time there is not much to do if they are doing everything right. Okay so they started doing lots of training, well then some tax payers got upset with how much all that training was going to cost. So now they write reports all the time. My interpretation is that the paperwork is pointless busy work and it was also upsetting to me that they had to get rid of the air hockey table in the basement! Anyway I view this as another example of some people thinking no way can anyone have anything better or different than me especially when I pay, but fail to realize how important or different the job/life is for those. And here's another crazy example, they used to occasionally pay for firefighter to go do groceries, somebody said that's wasteful, you can't do that, you only can have ten or whatever people paid at a time. So now when they go to get groceries, the entire truck company goes in the truck in case there is an emergency. The truck gets like 6-8 MPG. Anyway at least they are not watching TV before 5PM I guess, you can't see me shaking my head there.
Crap I still owe you a story,

You know I'm on a diet right? Why do you cruelly post that image? Well the Amazon makes-up for it. This one is still my favorite thouugh: [youtube eBUujJgnVUs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBUujJgnVUs youtube] If you only watch a bit, skip to 2:30 in and watch until burn-out.
Hi BB,
So my story, I'm 18 going to college in Chicago which is a predominantly Democrat city except for some areas, colleges tend to be as well. There are campaign workers out and about but the neatest thing are the people that will let you register to vote right there on the sidewalks. Cool, I did that and the person lets me know when and where the election will be. The election rolls around and I go to the place which is in the lobby of an apartment building, I had to get buzzed in to pass a gate and a door, there are some booths setup, I walk over to a lady behind a table and she gives me the ballot. I think nothing of it back then. Then later I meet my neighbor, he lives a few doors down in the same building and I ask him if he had voted. He had, it was in a school. Huh!?
So my guess is that I was conned into going to a fake polling location. Rumors were that the College Republicans had something to do with it. The genius was to have an actual fake polling location, I heard about in the past that people would throw away the voter registrations, but when people went to the polling locations they were allowed to cast provisional ballots then.

@MZS: Good evening! My, my that is great progress on the floor, how much floor do you have left to finish? Also I know I've asked this before, but how do you post photos?
5028 – Yesterday we had a pretty big storm here, it was raining like crazy! Tornado warnings close by, but nothing came of it. At least in our town. Also I found this Volvo featured on Bring a Trailer(Ever heard of it? great website) and I was wondering, is the 122S an Amazon Wagon? or just a 122S Wagon?

Hi BB,
Glad no damage from the storms. I have used almost half the boxes, so about half done then. Today I had a pack meeting and I needed to prepare the other side, so no more woo went down.
I like to use flickr when I can though, cause there is a share drop down list and it gives you exactly what to copy/paste for 500x wide image. Otherwise I do [img src="http;//example.com/foo/bar/baz.jpg" width="500"] but with the brackets replaced with less than and greater than symbolss (above , and . on your keyboard).
I like BaT a lot, but I run out of time to go there as much as I would like. Also I want to spend money then! That was a nice wagon, though no way is the guy getting 30 MPG. It's the second time I have seen someone claim that the Weber carb does that, and I just can't believe it. He does have bigger tires though and that must make it very hard to steer, not good for the wheel bearings I'm sure too.
The name is funny too. The real name for an Amazon wagon like that one and mine is 220. Which is awesome cause Volvo made a front loader recently with the same number! Anyway before that they had the 210 wagon, people called that the Duett (the dual purpose car). The 220 was the Amason (yes with an 's') but there was a German company selling something like scooter with that name. So Volvo only called them that in Sweden officially, but the name stuck. But in English it's spelled Amazon.
Now 122 was the designation of the sedan version. There also was a two-door. It was also a 122. Later they made a more sporty version of the coupe, it was numbered the 123 to distinguish from the 122 2-door. In the US all go them had 122S on the side except for the 123 which had 123GT. The GT, that was for grand tourer like a lot of other cars and the S came from how the PV544 was labeled as the 544 Sport on the back in the US. The S was from Sport. Every single one ever was a Sport in the US, funny. It had to do with the carbs, in Europe some were made with one smaller ZS carb, in the US they all came with dual SU carbs and those were the S models.
Have a good one,

BB and szm, zms, wot……………..BB: I'm glad the tornadoes didn't develop in your town. That's pretty scarey! What's the latest on your move to PA? I wonder what our French friend is doing. He hasn't commented here for some time.
mzs: Good job on the floor! It's going to be absolutely beautiful! How did you learn that skill? A girlfriend came over last night and brought a Papa Murphy's pizza……….the chicken, bacon, artichoke, spinach one. It is my favorite thing in the world to eat now, and I only discovered it in the last month. I'm not a fan of red sauce on pizza, and this pizza has a garlic white sauce and really thin crust. I hope all well!

Hi Skaycog,
Again, I AM ON A DIET! I just googled, there's a Papa Murphy's Pizza near where my parents live, near where a friend of mine lives, and on my way back from Joliet Lemons. This will be good info to remember and thankfully I am not too close to any location right now. I have left over gyros to finish. We had SO many from Monday, it has been making my diet slow to a crawl, oh well, I just can;t bring myself to let them go to waste. I would love a slice of that pizza too, I love red sauces, but then I get an upset tummy after, so that would be perfect!
I learned how to make floors like that helping my father and uncle. I did it in my old house and they both did it in at least two houses with me helping as well. In fact my uncle even got paid to do it for some neighbors of his. But this is the first time I have been 'thinking' while doing it. Before I was always the hammer guy. My dad has a real knack in particular for finding pieces that work well together. He has three boxes or so open at a time and matches the grain and colors so that it is not uniform but not jarring anywhere as well. Also he does it so that you get a nice stair step pattern and that the ones that are bad do not get used and the ones that are bad but can be used get used in places where they do not cause trouble. He taught me this time how to do it. So anyway before it was that they would put the blocks down near where they belonged and then I would tap them into place and then nail them in. When I was at one end they would be at the other, their job was faster, but then they also had to cut. It was a good system, though it's tiring work. Now Aga helps me, though I nail and cut, so it's slower.
Yesterday I got the stain and trim on the way back from Fred. I took Astrid, it's a bit more than an hour each way. I had fun. Fred is restoring a '68 wagon he found and he needed to look at how some things were put together on mine. I also made templates from the carpets that he bought years ago in Germany. Anyway I had a lot of fun there, today back to work on the floors. Fred and his wife are now grandparents, a six week old!

pj134………I bet pizza would be good with creme fraiche. I'd probably have to go to a bigger city to get it though. Thinking about pizza with gravies first sounded like yuck, but the more I think about it, it sounds pretty good and the combinations would be endless! You are talking about brown and white gravies?
msz, szm, pdq………Sorry about the food talk, but life goes on when you're on a diet. πŸ˜‰ Seriously, that Papa Murphy's pizza is a lot less calories than regular pizza, and it is sooooooo delicious! Of course, you can't sit down and eat the whole pizza. Moderation.
I see how you learned to lay floors. I bet you're pretty much a perfectionist at doing things the right way, so I bet your floor is going to be beautiful. What you have already done is great! Congrats to Fred and wife on being grandparents.

@Skaycog: Thanks I'm glad the tornado didn't hit us as well. A word about our moving situation. We're looking at both PA and NJ right now, and as soon as we have enough money to buy a new car we're gonna take a little vacation to PA and NJ and see which one is right for us. This should all take place in December. We will be looking at the Philadelphia area and West Chester, PA area. Bernardsville, NJ area as well.
@MZS: So if the Amazon's real model name is 220, then where did the Amazon name come from? Was it know as the Amazon in other markets? Also it snowed for the first time on Thursday.(!) Only lasted the one day though. It was fun to see some snow finally. I love snow. I even took a few photos, here is one, that you can click on if you so chose.

Hi BB,
Neat photo, looks like salt. It was sold as the Amason in Sweden, it's a big river in Brazil, I think that's what the name comes from. There are also those women of legend, maybe from them? Who knows, but the name became unofficial everywhere pretty much. An even older Volvo was nicknamed the sow, ha. Fred told me there was a 121 model in Europe as well, a really bare model, only a 3-speed, one carb, no door pockets even. Good luck on everything going on.

@Skaycog: Hello Skaycog, we had a great Thanksgiving, just the four of us. This was because my Aunt is still recovering from her surgery, and usually we all go over her house every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was fun just the four of us though, I stuffed myself πŸ˜‰ The Turkey my Dad made was excellent! Well another twist in the moving adventures of my family and I! We've got three options now, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, & Colorado(!) I know, crazy, but all three offer great possibles for us, and my Mother and Father both like CO(One of my Dads favorite cities is Denver) I've always like Colorado myself as well. I believe I've mentioned this, but have you heard of Cherry Hills Valley, CO? That is a city of around 5,000 people or so, we all like. Anyway I hope your weekend is going great.

HI Skaycog,
Oh man, I hope the soup was good. Did you have a belated Thanksgiving meal on Saturday then? I wonder if that turkey used an orange sliced in half slipped under the skin? That might make the breast meat more juicy in fact. This year Aga made the breasts only again, but she brined it the night before like she used to with the whole bird, very very good! Right now I've almost made two more strands of working lights. I should finish all the outside decorations tomorrow morning then. We got the tree up day after Thanksgiving. Aga had to work a lot, but we still had a lot of fun. Max got to play with some dogs even and I made a quick game night for some nieghbors. This time it was earlier in the evening so that the all the kids played while we played games. KEvin played Say Anything with us too. Actually Kevin helped me to fix the inflatable merry go round decoration before that too. We used a slinky to join the top and bottom so now the inside inflates and spins.

Almost polished off the rest of the rice pudding from Thanksgiving, when the stuffing is gone, it will be all eaten! Oh and I was only 201.6lb this morning! The best part was helping my neighbor, I only decorated a couple of trees in his backyard, but he always has a really elaborate setup. Now this year I can honestly say, "Yes I helped make that," with pride, ha! Do you know that on one of the strands two series of lights have already gone out! Argh what bad luck. They are supposed to burn out in a way that the bulb has this thin metal that springs and so the rest of the lights stay on, but I got really unlucky this time. It WAS very windy yesterday though.
Hi BB,
We saw the film Hugo 3D, Kevin had read the book. I think it was the one with the amazing B&W drawings. It was like Avatar in how good the 3D effects were. One nit was that because there was so often beautiful 3D stuff going on, I think it made the story move more slowly. Like here's a necklace, now here it is in two more angles in 3D, but man was it pretty, and the story was very good for children young and old (like me). Yes I cried πŸ™‚ Here it has not rained or snowed but boy was it windy yesterday.
