Packards For the Discriminating Clientele!

[Ed. note: Good friend of Hooniverse, Leo (aka SVT2888) decided to check out the annual Packard International Club get-together. What follows are his words and images. Thanks Leo!] This past weekend after Cars and Coffee, I decided to head to the Packards International club annual meet at the Double Tree hotel in Orange, CA. I am glad I decided to forgo sleep and head to this small show as it was a great showing. I mean really 24hrs without sleep is nothing even if you have to drive 80 miles round trip, just drink more coffee! Every single one of those cars was absolutely beautiful! I was flabbergasted by all the details that went into the designs of these cars. The craftsmanship was just something beyond what you get today. Every car seemed to have individuality. If only these cars could talk.

Purple People Eater
I was so enthralled by the magnificence of these automobiles that I just couldn’t stop clicking away with my camera (all the caffeine might have had something to do with it). I even became exhausted from so much picture taking! These automobiles are a great relic of a bygone era of automobile manufacturing that will never be again. Modern CAD designed cars just don’t have the same amount of character and panache that cars from this era had.
Aaaaaaooooooogah!
I hope to some day own a one of these cars, so I can show it and preserve it for generations to come. I don’t care if they don’t have a chance of winning a drag race or SCCA Solo 2 competition, though it’d be fun to try! As many of you might expect, looking at most of the people walking around and checking out the Packards, you might have thought this was just simply a stop for a retirement home field trip. These people actually remembered when you could walk into a Packard showroom.

Nevertheless, this car show was just part of my great weekend which included this show, the aforementioned Cars and Coffee and the 61st Annual Grand Roadster Show. Head over to CnCPics.com for the full gallery of excellent pictures.
