Lexus LX600 with OnX via Carplay

OnX OffRoad looks awesome in your vehicle via Apple CarPlay!

Yesterday I saw something pretty cool in a new vehicle. I was shooting a video with the new Lexus LX600 for a review on Autotrader when I connected my phone to test a feature I’d heard about. The new LX600 has wireless Apple CarPlay, which itself isn’t the cool part. What made me smile though is the fact that the OnX OffRoad app is now viewable directly on the screen in the vehicle. This means navigating trails is easier than ever!

OnX is an app designed with multiple uses. There’s a version for off-roaders, hunters, and those heading into the backcountry on skis or snowboards. With the OffRoad version of the app, you can get tons of info about an adventure ahead of you. Depending on which plan you opt for, the app can display weather forecasts, trail open dates, and even landowner information if private property sits near trails.

You can also take the map info offline so that when you’re out there without a signal, you still know exactly where you are and where you need to go. The app lets you add waypoints, create new lines and routes, and save and share any of your trips as well. And now it’s all viewable right on your screen if you have a vehicle that handles Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. This Lexus is the first time I’ve seen it in action, but I noticed in another car I’m testing the app logo was available there as well. That vehicle is a Porsche 911 GTS Targa, so I don’t plan on hitting any trails in it… although it is an all-wheel-drive model, so hmmm.

If you were curious about OnX, there’s a free trial of the app available. The Premium version costs $29.99 per year and has pretty much any feature you could need. If you want more though, the Elite runs $99.99 per year. This adds in the Property Boundaries, Landowner Names, and even Acreage information. This is important if you’re going to be way out there running close to people’s private land and you want to keep your wheels on the right side of a boundary line.
