Off-Road Testing the Nextbase 622GW Dash Cam in my old Montero

I’ve wanted a dash cam for a while now. Both for the insurance aspect of owning one plus the potential for capturing insane or awesome stuff while out and about. Nextbase recently hit us up to offer a few units to test, and I jumped at the chance. Especially since Nextbase touts its flagship model as being good for off-road or overland vehicles. Why is that? Because the 4K-capable camera features image stabilization and is therefore supposed to be good at grabbing video when you’re out on the trails.

Does it actually work? I bolted one into my Montero and set off on my local run to find out.

[Disclaimer: Nextbase sent us a box of dashcams free of charge. I’m also going to put one in the Jag to test out a lower-spec model in the near future.]

After getting burned twice by drivers straight up lying after causing an accident, I bought a dash cam. I went with the Viofo A119 V3 because it was inexpensive and highly recommended on the Reddit dashcam subreddit. I’ve mounted it in my truck, but haven’t done anything else with it. I need to pull the card and at least confirm that I’m getting useful footage, lol.

My plan was to not hard wire it and to swap it between vehicles, but it’s cheap enough I may buy another instead.
