OG Bro-dozer? Probably capable of rolling mosquito spray if not coal, after a few miles on the engine.

    This looks amazing.

Are you guys aware of Chinese 1000-1500$ LSEV’s? Insanely cheap transportation, super low quality, too, if you look at the steering wheel wear etc. Marketted to people who can’t drive, as they require no license in China:

I have a Jinan Dalong Vehicle Industry Co. Ltd. (Qingqi Group Motorcycle Co. Ltd.) Pioneer Shandong Pioneer Motorcycle, second remodel, from Shandong Pioneer Motorcycle Co. Ltd., LSEV sitting out back covered in Zap Xebra stickers, so yes, I am acutely aware of them.

Ha, I remember that one and couldn’t help but recognize them in the video, too. But was it that cheap when new? Did you ever get it to run?

Those came to the US market about a dozen years ago. For mdharrell, that IS new.

I saw two of them in parking lots around the time the dealership was winding down. The guy who bought the pickup paid $3000. He was proud to have bought it. I saw the other one a few months after that, when the dealership must have been really desperate to get rid of inventory, and I think that guy paid $1200, and bought it as sort of a joke.

I may have talked about my neighbour’s Chinese tractor before. It cost 2k$ new in 2010, is pretty tiny, super fast (because it is also intended as a countryside commuter) and rusted out in all but two years. It is so loud, ppl on the other side of the fjord, 2 kms away, asked him what kind of machine he had bought when this was new. So I guess there’s a lot of room within the proud joke scale of Chinese machinery.

I don’t know a great deal about Chinese tractors but I think a lot of them need to be treated as disposable because there are so many manufacturers that change specifications every 5 minutes that parts supply can be a very big problem. So they are often ok while they work…

The new price was around $12,000, which is staggeringly high. From what I’ve gathered there were no significant differences between the US version and the variously-branded domestic versions that were selling for about a tenth of that, or less, in China at the time.

I paid $300 for mine, which is staggeringly high.

I still haven’t faced up to the difficulties of repairing the shattered steering linkage in mine. Given that it failed while I was gently pushing the vehicle down the trailer ramps upon getting it home from its seller, I’m a bit worried about its overall quality of construction. If it fails to meet my own alarmingly low standards, it’s a genuine cause for concern.

For $1200, I kind of want this Chinese pizza delivery scooter.

If the starting price is really $1,000, then it seems like there should be a way to import these things and for around $3,000 sell them as basically all weather golf carts for places that allow golf carts on the road. Seems like there would be plenty of market. Maybe the same people that sell the $499 Chinese Scooters and ATVs could sell them.

      1. mdharrell Avatar

Perhaps, but I don’t know that the golf-cart crowd would put up with the pervasive shortcomings of these things.

Let me put it this way: I own a French VSP that was designed and constructed by four guys in an oversized shed. I own a Tecumseh-powered fiberglass contraption designed and constructed by a guy in Minnesota who was mostly teaching himself as he went along. I own a three-wheeled moped designed and constructed by an art collector in New York who one day decided to try out this whole “vehicle” thing. By most standards these are all horrible, but I’m okay with them. They each have some issues but at the end of the day I think they’re driveable. My Zap, on the other hand, gives me pause.

I’ve owned EZ Go 2-stroke golf carts and they are built like tanks and have heavy duty components. I’ve noticed Yamaha electric carts are becoming popular around my neck of the woods – also very well built. You’re right, American golfers wouldn’t put up with unreliable carts.
