Last Call: The Utah DOT has a fun “prank” idea for motorists

Starting back in 2008, Utah began raising the speed limits on its interstate highway system A 75 mile per hour limit has risen to 80 mph. That’s plenty high for this nation, as most people can barely handle 40 mph. But Utah is a beautiful place with wide open and well maintained highways, so 80 mph works perfectly there. Still, Utah’s DOT has a prank in mind for drivers on this April 1, 2019.

Jokes on them though… if I were driving through Utah in either my Benz or my Montero, I’d likely not be cruising faster than 80 mph anyway.

Last Call indicates the end of Hooniverse’s broadcast day. It’s meant to be an open forum for anyone and anything. Thread jacking is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

How many time zones have you crossed if 9am plus 18 hours is 9:36pm? Doesn’t seem to add up?

Also does the sign mean don’t drive slower or don’t drive faster?

The elapsed time is cumulative, not continuous. The average speed was achieved while never exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 10 percent. My route was between Dallas and New Orleans; this was the round trip. Note that the average speed would probably been a little higher if not for some driving around on the streets of New Orleans.

Doesn’t surprise me. If you’re lucky enough to clear the traffic on rural interstate in Texas, 80 will seem quite normal.

As much as I’d love to see someone drive as fast as the speed limit, I don’t think it’s reachable, or even approachable.

It drives me nuts when generic car illustrations don’t make sense. Here I see a Volvo TP21 front mated to a Mercedes G passenger compartment. Or is it?

To me it says Australian Mattress Delivery Wagon. A 1990s Defender with a nudge bar and a Queensland size mattress on top.

Looks like the sort of bullbar that was fairly common on 40-series Landcruisers https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4a0339c3537eddc9eae0d33990f312f19fb9749ac52bb78d01d5eb7d2ec746be.jpg

Was thinking FJ40 or BJ45, somewhere in between perhaps.
