Like silvered glass, a beautifully chromed bumper may serve as a mirror of our souls – or at least a collection of rods as this artsy fartsy image reflected on a seriously dropped participant. Chrome plating is actually a two-stage process, the chromium first being deposited giving the piece its highly reflective luster, and then a thin protective coat of nickel over the top to keep everything shiny.
