Last Call: Imprudently Handsome

A 1956–59 BMW 507 is always an attractive automobile. Dress it in formal black and photograph it at speed, and now you’re just flaunting elegance unnecessarily.

I’m thinking along the same lines, but, do we have to use a production version for it to count…?

…come to think of it, especially considering how many kit cars are powered by some flavor of SBC anyway, I wonder how come nobody makes a replica Stingray roadster? If Race Car Replicas can do a replica of the one-of-one XJ13, I would think this would be do-able…

Body too large, or chassis too small?

Looks like Volvo had a plan for a sports car till it got punched in the mouth, but then, as the saying goes, everybody has a plan till they get punched in the mouth.

Not sure, maybe Austin Healey 100, Maserati 3500, Mercedes Pagoda SL or MGA

I can offer nothing that, to my eye, tops the 507.

The original yes, but not one of the replicas!

I would agree, though I prefer the svelte lines of the 289.

The Daimler wasn’t alone in that category…

But the Sprite is so cute! I haven’t found the right one yet but I’m still looking. But the Daimler? At the time in England manufacturers were hiring Italian designers to spiff up their products but Daimler must have had a contest for children of employees to submit crayon drawings of what a sports car looks like and little Andrew won with his “catfish” car.
